1/2 Price Topend PC`s

devilman26969 (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 4th April 2005, 14:30

I bought one of these and they are VERY fast - excellent spec, excellent customer service too. They say refurbished but mine was new and had never been taken out of the box, basically someone bought it from PC world realised they couldn`t afford it and took it back :D the same model from PC world is £1300.

I can`t believe no one thinks this is a good deal?

does sound like a decent offer for anyone wanting an Advent computer. One major ointment-fly could be the RTB warranty though. Anyone with no pc knowledge is likely to have to send the whole base unit back, in the event of a faliure. And unless Saturn Computers provide a free courier service, how much is that going to cost :o

Additionally, thats not actually half price if you dont buy it from the most expensive place on the market i.e PC World.

And then theres the fact that advent PCs generally suck balls, using el cheapo components and so on.

You have to remember that PC World is one of the most disgustingly over priced PC retailers there is on the market. Most PCs available at PC World could be purchased for well over 50% off if you shop around.

Their mark-ups are astronomical.

Nickthegun, how do you mean that Advent PCs use cheapo components? As far as I can see, the processor is Intel, the graphics card is ATI. Hard discs are more or less similarly priced across manufacturers. Maybe it`s the motherboard and/or RAM. If they are cheapo ones can you tell me who manufactures them?

As far as I can see, the PCs are very well priced. Yes there is a markup on PC World computers but those prices are pretty decent.

Try not to worry too much about it. I posted my first ever bargain post a while back and was greeted with...

Reboxed, repaired, second hand isn`t `NEW`.....in the past it hasn`t been unknown for PC World/Dixons/Currys group to sell `fixed` returned `faulty` Pc`s as new

I work at PC World & I wouldn`t touch a Advent with a barge pole! Good speck for money not bad components its just they are put together by monkeys!!

PC World overpriced? Well you will always pay extra for a shop you can walk into and get advice on what you need. Overheads, more staff. Yes you will get cheaper on net but you have to remember that if you get issues you cant just take it back to a store with a company like "Ebuyer" who you can`t even ring!!

Net - Good if you know what you want and are willing to take a risk that you may have to pay to send it back if problems ( I do as I build my own)

Price - Some good offers with a Laptop with DVD writer for £499 and a Windows Media Centre PC with 17"TFT for £699 are some good offers.
