femaleangel, sorry, I saw the offer yesterday instore, apparently not available online...
If you cannot get this offer, the Zanon 7" widescreen TFT & divx DVD player from Maplin for £89.00 mentioned on a previous thread is also a very good deal, and that one is available online.

RE: Twin Widescreen In Car DVD Player £109.99
I was in Sainsburys - west hove (sussex) - yesterday, buying a DAB radio.
I saw these on display - can`t recall the exact price - but it was well in excess of £110.
Could yours have been a refurbished unit?
I know that on these forums quite regularly very cheap electrical prices pop up in certain Sainsbury`s stores (i.e. not nationwide) and invariably these turn out to be refurbished units that they are selling off cheap.
Having just bought (and awaiting delivery) of the Maplin Zenon, I will be frustrated if this does turn out to be two brand new unkits for only £20 more. (albeit 6" rather than 7")
RE: Twin Widescreen In Car DVD Player £109.99
Hi Ferretktf, the units were definately brand new (the 2 screens and player were shrink wrapped inside the box) I bought a set as well as 2 of the Maplin Zanon set this weekend. To compare the two, the Zanon has a slighty bigger screen (7" as opposed to 6.2") but the size difference ins`t really noticeable put side by side. The Zanon screen is sharper but the colors are not good-whites seem nicotine white and skin tones are well off palette and no amount of fiddling with color/hue/gamma controls could correct this. The Venturer screens are much truer in color rendition but more blurry.
The other advantage of the Venturer screens are that they are tiltable within the headrest mounting bracket to allow for better viewing angles. The silver Venturer screens and player are also the nicer looking of the two systems, the Zanon having a cheap black plastic finish. You can easily plug in an external game console/video camera into the Venturer with the supplied leads. You can do this with the Zanon but much more difficult as you have to disconnect the monitor AV Inputs before you can plug in another external device. The Zanon screen is more versatile as you could completely disconnect it from the supplied bag and put it anywhere in the car just by extending the phono connectors and power lead. The Venturer screens have a proprietory connector and so are limited by the length of the supplied cable (approx 2m)
The biggest advantage of the Zanon is that it plays DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW whereas the Venturer does not recognise any of the Re-Writable formats but will play DVD-R`s ok. Also the Zanon will play Divx /MPEG 4 movies, the Venturer will not.The Zanon is multiregion and VCD enabled out of the box, the Venturer is easily hacked.
Hope this helps!

they have them in coventry but for £218.99 checked price with counter ,manager, other stores and head office and all the same price ,you must have been lucky, still £30 cheaper than elsewhere
RE: Twin Widescreen In Car DVD Player £109.99
Fred,
Most of my movies are SVCD and VCD on CD-R`s - from your comments I presume that both units will play these ok?
How poor are the colours on the Zenan? Are you speaking from a home studio buff (i.e. likes perfection) or from an average viewer perception (i.e. would my kids compain about picture quality?)
My Maplin unit arrived today and is waiting for me at home - perhaps I`ll return it under the distance selling regs if I can pick these up from Sainsbury`s at that price (although from Pianeet`s comments it looks like you cracked a great bargain!)
One final question - with the Zanon, can you link two screens to one DVD player .... i.e. play one disc but have both screens showing it??? I only bought one Maplin unit initially but may bag another if they are ok.

RE: Twin Widescreen In Car DVD Player £109.99
Hi ferretktf,
I`m not sure svcd, but on the box, the Zanon states it does play VCD`s. The Venturer will play VCD`s with an easy remote hack.
As far as the colors go with the Zanon, it really is subjective: to me, they are quite bad in comparison to the Venturer and my Panasonic Portable 7" DVD player, however, kids and the casual viewer are unlikely to complain.
With The Zanon, you can link 2 screens together as the player has a phono composite A/V out and a scart on the side.
The Venturer was still available at my local Sainsburys (Ipswich) this morning for £109.99 but my local Maplin was sold out of the Zanon as was the Maplin website.
Either one is a bargain it has to be said and i`m not disappointed with either as both have their pros and cons.
Hope this helps!
