dvdplus.co.uk.... where`s the yellow padlock?????

dak1974 (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 11th May 2001, 13:10

I was just about to make my first purchase from this site when I noticed the secutiry icon was missing on the credit card details screen, which instantly made me feel uneasy. I mean, isn`t that a prerequisite these days?

Further to that, I just got the following message back from their Customer Services Co-ordinator....

"The data is fully encrypted, hence the Ignite/Verisign logo on the page.
The padlock doesn`t show because we only use and SSL connection for the credit card form and not the surrounding frames that contain non-sensitive information."

I`m not that technical when it comes to web page design, but I would have thought that if one frame on a page is secure, the whole page must be, and the padlock should show??? Im I right? Help me out here guys :oD

Each Frame is a separate file in its own. The security is invoked on the server side and has nothing to to do from the client side .So what he says makes sense

Ok, but surely if I enter my card details in a window on my client which has no padlock, and hit send, it will not be encrypted until it has traveled across the internet and reached their server. Is this not what big-bit encryption is all about these days?

As it says there the reason the padlock doesnt show is cos the only page thats secured is the credit card form and not the frameset itself....open the credit card form in a new window and teh padlock will be there

you could also right click over the page and choose properties. Check that the URL starts with HTTPS. If it is it is using SSL.

IE5 does not display the padlock aless the whole frameset is secure, which slows the site down.

Thanks for the advice. I have been back - the frame is https, so placed my order this morning. Got Arthur and Frantic for £8.99 each, and Jerry Maguire for £10.99. Free p&p. Not bad me thinks.
