:D i just bought an alba 165 from argos as a christmas pressie for my sis, its a nice sleek slimline player at only just over an inch in height. finished in a nice sw***y gunmetal grey finish. and to top it all to my delight its region free out of the box.

i tested 8 different titles,
1 region 2
5 region 1`s
2 err `cough ahem `backups` hehe

all played fine.

and at only £35 its an absolute bargain

DVD bargains are everywhere at the moment but the one I picked up was the Pacific 1002 from Asda for £35.

It plays MP3, CD, DVD, DVD-R, and I`m sure there`s more.
It`s nice design for the money and easily turned into multi-region with a remote code from the internet.

Everything that I`ve put in so far has played well. On the down side the remote buttons are too small and close together and there is only 1 scart socket.

Here`s the real crunch - 3 year guarantee from Asda came with it. My friend just returned a £60 faulty player after 2 years got one of these and was given money back.

Happy Christmas from Asda (and me).

i also have the pacific 1002 from asda as my bedroom player (although i got it when it was £42 - doh!) and i agree it is excellent. ive had it about a year now and it plays everything i throw at it (approx 250 dvd`s in my collection) my only issue with it (rather than a complaint) is that by todays standard it looks a little clunky compared to the uber stylish 165. i just love the totally silent clear disk tray.

You sure?
I thought Asda stopped the 3 year gtee last year because too many people were stuffing them on tellys after the first couple of years?

Superb news if they still gave you the 3 year though, but it`d be worth confirming if you haven`t already.

Our 28" Daewoo gave up a couple of weeks ago, 2 years 8 months after purchase.

Now replaced by a 28" Panny, but they told me that it only had a 12 month guarantee. Apparently they stopped doing the 3 year ones a while ago.

Cheers

3 year guarantee from Asda came with it

just to double up on jimbo`s post, check the gaurantee (or the card "slip" they sometimes give out) to see if they still state 3yrs, as i`m sure they stopped it :(
