Safeway electrical clearance (Morrison takeover)
A Safeway stock management supervisor has reported over at DVD Forums that Safeway will be clearing a load of electrical stock, including TVs, DVD, etc at silly prices during this week - eg Naiko portable £99, Naiko handheld TV £15, Philips PW6006 £111 etc.
This is due to the recent takeover by Morrisons - keep checking your local stores :D

RE: Safeway electrical clearance (Morrison takeover)
Spurred on by the lunchtime need for a greasy burger outside Wickes, I popped into my local Safeway (Dartford)
Naiko portable £129, Naiko handheld TV £29.99.
They also had a Sony Home Cinema setup no price on it. :( As I dont fancy carrying this back to Exeter this Friday on the Tube & Train, I didnt pursue it further.
RE: Safeway electrical clearance (Morrison takeover)
I checked the Lakeside (Essex) Safeways this afternoon, no sign of any price reductions - Naiko portable £129, Naiko handheld TV £29.99, same story as Dartford.
RE: Safeway electrical clearance (Morrison takeover)
Naiko handheld tv £19.99 at safeway team valley, and a couple of Sharp VLZ1H camcorders at £199.99.No dvd players all sold

Sounds good. What`s the story behind this though - are Morrisons getting rid of electrical stuff altogether, and turning the Safeways into "food only" stores?

I think they`re trying to get rid of surplus stock, rather than stop selling electrical stuff all together - Safeway have a propensity to bulk order Far Eastern imports which then struggle to sell unless drastically reduced in price. Seems Morrison`s have taken that decision for them :)
I`m off to the Gamston, Notts store tomorrow to see what I can bag :D

Morrisons do not, and are not, stocking electrical items such as TVs, DVD Players and Hi-Fi`s. They will still have their "Home and Leisure" department with some electrical items (eg Toasters and Kettles) At the moment most Safeway`s have "Home Entertainment" departments, which are all being closed! So Morrisons have decided to have a clearance sale on all the electrical items they do not want.
I work there as a Stock Management Supervisor, so I am sure that is the correct info. Also, It is up to individual stores if they want to take even further price action to clear through over stocks.
One thing to keep an eye out for is the company`s Clearance event, which should start in the next few weeks. Morrisons don`t want to stock 7000 lines that Safeway currently do. Therefore they will be selling off all these line cheap! They have already started with the booze, with prices like £0.48 for barcardi breezers!
