15% off Mailwasher Pro

RichardH (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 20th April 2004, 14:16

Just visited the useful website spywareinfo, and they have a code for 15% off Mailwasher Pro. I`ve recently started using the free version of Mailwasher, and have found it excellent for spotting spam - particularly if you set it to check SpamCop for blacklisted mail servers. I may well upgrade to the paid for version, as it`s a bit less clunky to use, and can deal with more than one email account.

You get that free with Outlook 2003, well not the same but SPAM filtering.

But Outlook can`t bounce emails back to sender. This is the only reason I use Mailwasher and it works well for me in that respect.

Bouncing e-mails back is completely pointless - in fact, in some cases all you`re doing is propagating the problem as 9 out of 10 viruses come from spoofed e-mail addresses, so in reality you`re spamming someone else ! Couple that with the fact that 99.99999% of spam is from an account that is set up one day, closed the next, it really is a totally fruitless exercise - feels good, admittedly, but it`s a waste of time.

Best thing is just to delete the darn things, not bounce `em :)

Not trying to be smug here, but the original beta versions of Mailwasher could always handle more than one e-mail address - the limitation of one e-mail address is only recent. Thank goodness I was an early convert :)

Plenty of other e-mail checkers, for free, that take multiple accounts and delete from the server.
Browse here.

Granted it doesn`t work for every spam email, but it`s reduced the amount I get, so from my personal experience it seems to work.

Damn, I am in the process of changing my email address just to stop the very kind offers i get each minute of the day.

The only satisfaction I am going to get is the BOUNCE!

I use my own domains via 123 or Easily, i have had my domain spoofed and it`s not pretty when you are getting 1000`s of replies an hour! I have two email addresses that get 99% of all my spam, gonna turn them off to hopefully stop the flow!

The Area 450 inbox gets hit by around 250 spam/virus e-mails per day and I`ve seen all the patterns, nothing more sinister (mwahahahahaha :p ).

I think your advice about setting up a specific e-mail address for junk is a sound one, mind.

I get loads of spam each day, a lot of it offensive in content or nature. I`d really like to know who told all these people I need viagra and penis enlargement medication.(Will have to keep an eye on the wife`s p.c. usage!).

Anyway, I`ve recently taken to clicking on them and ordering stuff on false card numbers and addresses - just to waste some of their time, as they do with mine. I also contact them with silly questions, giving them mailinator addresses for replies.

I`m also starting to look at mail bombing software for those that give any valid email address. Used this before with some guy in China that ripped us off. They don`t like it when the boots on the other foot. Have to make sure you send from a temporary email address or you get mail bombed yourself.

There now, I feel better already!
