Akura ADV15S £34.99 at Sainsbury`s
£34.99 at sainsbury`s. Claims to be DVD+RW and DVD-RW compatible (not tested it yet). Has coax digital audio out, no component out. I`m searching for a multi-region hack and will post if I find one..

RE: Akura ADV15S £34.99 at Sainsbury`s
Stop Searching ! Already Multi region out of box, but not VCR friendly
Main limitations are:
1) No RGB output on Scart, only composite video or S-Video
2) No Rotate facility when playing JPEGs
3) Rather clumsy menu structure for MP3 and JPEG, could live with the latter though would rather not.

Re: NO RGB output on SCART
How can you tell?
On the outside of the box it states "SCART output with RGB"
My TV indicates that even known RGB sources e.g. Sky digibox are CVBS i.e. composite.
RE: Akura ADV15S £34.99 at Sainsbury`s
Doh! it helps to use a fully wired scart cable.
Composite only - you`re not wrong.
Is this an item for trade descriptions?
I called the support line on the manual and have logged a query with their tech. support to find out how to get it into RGB mode
RE: Akura ADV15S £34.99 at Sainsbury`s
I know it says "SCART output RGB" on the side of the box, but there was no RGB output so a quick look inside confirmed only five wires connected to the Scart socket viz. composite video, audio R/L, switching voltage and earth. The picture quality with the composite was disappointing which made the machine unacceptable for my needs and so I returned it pointing out the incorrect description on the box.

I have also purchased one of these players and can not play region 1 titles. Were you successful in finding a hack, i have looked everywhere and cant find one, or did you find that yours would infact play region 1 out of the box as someone suggested.

Re: multi-region hack
Mine was multi-region out of the box i.e. the number I saw was already 255, but I did find this hack (for one of the adv14s versions) worked:
1. In the no disc mode (i.e when the player is powered on without a disc)
2. press the setup key on the remote
3. then press the following key in order
4. vol + , vol - , vol + , vol - (these are the buttons marked + & - that are under the audio key on the remote)
5. when you have press these button your display should read region 2 in the top left on the screen.
6. then use the right key (the blue right button in the middle of the remote) until the 2 in the top left of the screen reads 255 (the numbers 1 to 6 are the different regions and 255 is multi region)
7. when 255 is highlighted then press the return key on your remote and then press the menu button which should take you to the the no disc mode
8. now you player is region free (and remember this is a one of hack and will never need to be repeated)

RE: Akura ADV15S £34.99 at Sainsbury`s
Does it play VCD/SVCD??
RE: Akura ADV15S £34.99 at Sainsbury`s
Yes it does play VCD also SVCD and especially XSVCD at 4000Kbs data rate all without problem but the quality is naturally limited to that of the composite video output.
( ie dot crawl and some colour bleeding which does not occur when the same discs are played on a machine that outputs RGB, until that machine is also switched to composite video output. )
Interested to read above that not all the machines are multiregion `out of the box`. Mine certainly was and played R1 discs without problem.
