Lidl - £99 Surround Sound kit

Dave Bell (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 12th April 2003, 18:39

Seen in the local Lidl today, and it doesn`t seem to be selling so fast. a surround sound amp and speakers for £99.

Spec seems OK, multiple stereo inputs and a digital as well, with a full 5.1 speaker set.

Silver finish, but I couldn`t tell how big the speakers were from what was visible on the box.

35W RMS for the subwoofer, 1100W PMP for the whole system.

A price this low suggests the quality isn`t all that great, but I have bought decent electronic stuff from them in the past.

Quite surprised that they are selling slowly, perhaps sometimes a bargain can be too good a bargain, with good spec and 3 year warranty I thought they would be flying out the doors, makes you wonder eh

btw I posted this with a link to more info including a photo a while back,

Never mind ;-))

EDIT : the link to lidl on the post above no longer shows this system ( it`s moved on to the next two week`s specials ) but I notice there is a similar but smaller unit which should appear in the UK in the next couple of weeks, pricing @ 79 euros it will probably be under £ 50.00 here

Perhaps because their dolby pro-logic not dolby digital or DTS. An inferior non digital sound system?

For sure snafu,
But you would struggle to buy a similar speaker setup ( which looks quite decent) for under £100 so the amp is a free bonus if you like, and for lots of first time buyers on a very tight budget not the worst deal around. ;-))

Neal, fair point, particularly since its now £ 10.00 cheaper @ £ 89.99 ;-))
Having said that I would still suggest that for what it is the Lidl package is good value, especially with the 3 year guarantee.
Still since neither you or I will be buying the Lidl package the true definer of the value, the sound quality, will remain an unknown.

Yes, Dolby Pro Logic is prominent on the box, but unless I`ve misread the small print, and I may have, it does have a digital input.

I wonder if the customers were put off by that?

I recently posted the following

In the hardware section.

DD5.1 decoder built into sub, small surrounds. Reasonable sound for the price. Not a bad way into surround sound I reckon.

Hi,
I would like to say that I bought a complete system , Bush 1005/A and Pro 400 Dolby Digital Speaker kit, for the miserly sum of, wait for it......,
£ 99.00 + vat in Macro.
What do you think of that guys/girls?

The Makro specials are always cracking buys, but the best deal is their breakfast special : any seven items from a terrific selection plus buttered toast and tea or coffee for £ 2.49, good job I don`t visit Makro too often or I would be the size of a house.

Hungry just writing about it ;-))
