Digi Boxes on the cheap

dusty321 (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 9th February 2003, 19:06

If your after one on the cheap goto Curry`s Or Comet ask for a Ex ITV box the sales guy/girl will cough and fart and try to sell you a £100 model, if you stick to your guns you might well end up with a cheapie, I got a Pace receiver for £35.

Funny how a sales person one minute can say "No we have none of those ITV boxes in stock look at this nice £100 model" to which I said no thanks, then in a flash he`s managed to find 25 boxes all priced @ £35.

Bargain!

Do all branches have them?
I`ve been told a digi box might not work where I am - but at that price it`s worth a try.
Thanks Dustybin

I am new to this digi box thing...Can you use one of these instead of the new digi boxes which allow you to get all the free-to-view channels which cost £100?

Would I need anything else to stsart it ..adaptors etc. Does it plug straight into the tv?
Also what model is the Pace receiver?

Cheers

Certainly interesting at that price, I have been looking at these for a while, but didnt think the few extra channels was worth £100. But at this price, and more channels comming on all the time..... I will certainly go and check my local stores out tomorrow!

Update: Just been to my local store (Brixton for anyone that is interested) and they deny all knowledge of them, so no luck there. Can anyone confirm where they are in stock? I am trying to call my next store at the moment to check on stock, but it is just ringing and ringing.

I just went to the brand new Comet store in Yeading. No luck there - they also deny all knowledge - as does the 0845 call center number :-(

But that store at Yeading is HHUUGGEE. It is enormous. Massive video wall at the back. Obviously full to the brim of typical high street prices. But the size of it...wow!

If anyone knows of a store west London way. Post it here.

Kerplunk...a...ding!

Hello fella`s

The old ITV digi boxes work a dream, I was suprised to find that I didnt need to upgrade my aerial, just plug and watch 33 channels, dont get any of the music channels?

NOW, sales people are classic bulls***ters as we all know and thay have their reasons, according to Comet Rhyl many stores have a large surplus of these old units but would rather sell the higher price digi boxes for obvious reasons, the line I took when I bought my digi box was " I loaned the box from my brother and dropped it down the stairs hence replacement is needed quick sharp" it was a further 10 minutes before the sales guy realised I wasnt going for a £100 unit and decided to "Have a look in the store room" rather that the prospect of a missed sale, strange as It seems he found one for me and a further 24 units were found on the store data base all around the £35 price mark.

So in short fella`s, dont let them bulls*** you thay have them in stock!

Yeah, I have tried a couple of stores today (a Curys and a Comet) and in both cases I made it very clear that there was no way I was going to spend £100 on it, but that £35 was ready and waiting, and in both cases got the same response, no, sorry none in stock. So I said fine, and walked out. Cant believe that I can make it any clearer than that, or that they turned down a sale of something that they had in stock. Tho I will keep trying, cos I am defo interested at that price.
