Compacks 5.1 DVD

audiobore (Competent) posted this on Monday, 4th November 2002, 09:59

Anyone heard of this. Aparantly Safeway are offering these this week at £79.99. Thats the cheapest 5.1 output player I`ve heard of. It does all the usual VCD/MP3 plus JPEG which I assume is photo CD.

plays mp3 - o.k.

Karaoke Discs with Graphics - o.k.
but appears to play vcd`s but on unbranded discs for some reason
I would like to know who this is made by to find out more info on it
before I take it back.
If there is a hardware crack like the dansia it will be a great system

I,ve just looked at the Safeway Flyer the model number is AB-6820.
An internet search turned up a site at :
http://www.viewcome.com.tw/DS-8319.htm
and the player looks identical - withthe exception of a `COMPACKS` badge.
A search on COMPACKS brought up a collective trading group at www.compacks.com

I went to my local Safeway but they`d already withdrawn their stock. If you`ve still got it and are thinking about getting rid - I`ll buy it off you!

Is it regionalised then - for US region 1?

I have decided to keep it.
When we opened the box & found the mains adapter only had 2 pins, We rang them & they told that they r just about to take them off the shelf because of this matter, & they would give us a refund,
but we are going to keep it but not sure now how we will stand with the warranty??
we will have to ring them I guess..
cheerz for your interest anywayz & sorry to let yaz down...

Don`t blame ya for keeping it - I would have done so too!
I`ll have to see if they re-market them with a UK lead - noticed on one of the links above that it takes 110-240V AC (autoswitching) so any lead that fits would do - or put a 3-pin on.
I take it it`s multi-region then?
