Hi there - this site is now saying only £340 -thats cheaper than the Phillips I`ve seen for £360. Now I`m stuck on which format to chose. Any suggestions from anyone?

All this format talk......

Ok at the end of the day one will win - VHS vs BetaMax etc

But aslong as YOU can play what you burn what does it matter - Ok there are a few differences in Media - but how many times do you really lend a vhs tape to a friend - personally not very often so its only used in my house. Personally ill be getting a burner for my PC and using that with a compatible Standalone DVD player but thats just my requirments.

Go with what you can buy and run for the cheapest - as far as im aware there are no performance differences when using it to record TV anyway ( im sure someone will pick me up on that but either way its better than vhs )

( Also DVD + HD recoders are starting to hit the market and imho offer a much better solution although will be expensive to start with )

Just my 2 penth worth

Hope it Helps

And of course its how much after you add VAT (which their web site doesn`t display until you get to the checkout) ;-)

Currently it seems:
Panasonic -
DVD-R - cheapest blank discs (70p) , compatible with most players
DVD-RAM - great for timeslip, can`t play discs in many players
No Multiregion hacks.

BTW Comet are doing the E30 for 399.99 delivered

Philips -
DVD+R - Not as compatible as -R but getting there, Discs more expensive (£2)
DVD+RW - Much like RAM but without the timeslip
Can be made multiregion.

but don`t forget for the greatest DVD-R compatibility with other players, you are limited to 2hrs recording per disc.
