Panasonic RV31

I have just bought this excellent DVD player to match my Panasonic TV, Sky Digi box and Video and I am very happy with it. However, can this be hacked to play region 1 DVD`s via the remote or does it need to be chipped? Anyones help is very much appreciated! Thanks
