help with phillips 711 hack..
I passed this on to a friend who has just bought one but she can`t quite work out the instructions.. it says:
1. Send the infra-red code RC6 (aka Codeset 4, Key 235 in nerd-speak) to your player. You can do this with a OneForAll remote such as the OneForAll 6 (or URC7560) or OneForAll 4 Digital with the following instructions:
Configure your remote using the setup code 0539
Press the Magic button
Enter the code 085
I`m assuming this means key in the codes 0539 and 085 with the remote, but what is the magic button supposed to be? Do you need one of those remotes, what happens if you`re using the one you got with the machine?
Thanks for any help :o)
Online source for LG-3200 and more
Just thought I`d point out this site which I found the other day.. they have several DVD offers, one of which is the LG-3200E for £145 + free P+P (I know you can get it cheaper in some stores but it`s a good offer for those who can`t get there!) It`s one of those group buying places.. if several people buy the price goes down. The LG has reached its lowest.
They have other brands too.. its a timed offer, the current one runs out in just over a day, but I expect there will be more. Only 7 LGs left for the current offer..

RE: USA DVDs... NTSC TV needed??? help!
Yeah, I`ve noticed you guys have a tendency to recommend players that no one can get their hands on (Aiwa, LG). Whenever I find another player that seems decent enough, that someone recommends, its not long before I`ve found 1 person saying its the best piece of machinery ever and someone else saying it`s the worst they`ve ever seen! Sometimes this forum can be not very helpful... ;o)
RE: USA DVDs... NTSC TV needed??? help!
Thanks for the Tim, the site did list my TV and seems to imply that it can handle 60 (although it says 50 on the back of the TV!) I think I`m coming to the conclusion that I`ll just have to buy a machine and see what happens :o)
I think you`re right about the Wharfedale, what I`ve read here about the 50/60 stuff it putting me off. I`ll just have to do some more research and pick something else!
Thanks again.
RE: USA DVDs... NTSC TV needed??? help!
OK, here goes, maybe my last questioning post :o) Thanks for the info Tim, just the sort of thing I was after, and now I`m sitting looking at my TV specs. I can`t find anything about a refresh rate, but it does say :
21-pin connector: CENELEC standard RGB input
and I also see it says:
S-video input jack
I don`t see where the s-video goes in.. is it a split cable with 2 inputs? and does this help my NTSC problem or not?
(I was thinking about buying the Wharfedale 750.. does all this mean I shouldn`t now?)
.... and there was me thinking all I had to do was go and buy a machine, any machine!
RE: USA DVDs... NTSC TV needed??? help!
Just discovered another question... I read that ntsc on a non ntsc tv can appear jerky? Is that going to be a problem whatever I do unless I buy an NTSC tv? or will one of those DVD players that outputs PAL not have that problem..
Thanks for all the help btw - I appreciate it!
RE: USA DVDs... NTSC TV needed??? help!
OK, so everything is not quite as sorted as I`d thought! If I check the SCART info on my tv, what sort of RGB reference am I looking for? The idea of hardware that will definitely deal with NTSC disks and no NTSC TV sounds good.. is there anywhere I can find specific info on models and that spec? (other than the Aiwa and LG :o)
RE: USA DVDs... NTSC TV needed??? help!
I was hoping that`s what people would say! It seemed odd that this sales guy was saying that when I`d seen no other reference to TV type anywhere, no one saying they`d had problems.
Thanks very much, I guess I can go ahead and buy one now!
(thanks also for the website tip :o)
USA DVDs... NTSC TV needed??? help!
Hi..
I`m new here, and a big movie fan, so I`m finally going to take the plunge and get a DVD player. Of course there`s no point getting one unless it can be fixed to play US disks (so I can buy cheaply online :o) But when I went in to my local Richer Sounds to get the nitty gritty details they said that to play US DVDs I`d have to have an NTSC tv. Despite having 4 TV`s in my family home none of them are NTSC compatible, and it`s using up enough money getting the player! Is it definite that I need an NTSC TV or is there some way round it... I really hope there is....
Thanks for any help!
