Himage 2290 hack

I`ve just received an email from Himage in Hong Kong regarding how to manually change the region:

1) Press "OPEN/CLOSE` button on remote control to open the drawer
2) Press code "8800", you will see four stars on left top corner of TV set.
3) Press "1" for region 1, "2" for region......... "6" for region 6 or
Press "9" for all region.

Anyone considering whether to buy the multiregion version from Richer Sounds could now save a tenner and just hack it themselves which is obviously what RS do.

This should get by RCE encoded discs although RS did test my player out in the viewing area using the Patriot and Matrix and both were fine on all region.

RE: HIMAGE PLAYER FROM RICHER SOUNDS

yes I bought one. Macrovision is disabled and you can get a pretty good recording on VHS. I think the multiregion is automatic but perhaps there is a hack that will make it manual. Himage themselves may know how to do this. There isn`t a scart but I connected it via the audio/video ports and the picture is really good. It plays CDR, VCD and MP3 discs fine although you need to have your MP3 tags in an older version for the names to show on screen. all in all, if you just want a cheap and cheerful machine, its a good buy.

RE: Himage 2290

The Himage does have a couple of games - Tetris is one of them. Like I said earlier, it plays well, and the sound is good plus all it`s other features. Bargain if you`re not bothered about having a brand name.

RE: Himage 2290

I haven`t any region 1 dvd`s yet but the machine can be turned to PAL, NTSC and auto in the setup. Don`t know if they will but as long as they play okay through the vcr then I should imagine they would tape okay. I haven`t seen anything to set the region manually but there could be something on the menu`s. Richer Sounds may know as it was them who checked to find out if it was macro disabled. Could try Himage themselves too.

Himage 2290

Looks like I`m the only one on this forum that has bought one. Went to Richer sounds and they set it up in their test area - picture compared well with another one they showed me. And for 109 quid for a multi region, macro disabled machine it`s great. The picture on my tv is as good as other DVD`s I`ve seen and that is wired through my vcr as I can`t get AV on my tv due to losing the remote control. I even taped a bit of a DVD and the quality on the video recording was excellent. Plays MP3`s etc. Sound was brilliant through my hifi too. Okay looks a little strange but if you`re not a DVD anorak and just want a decent player with lots of features at a cheap price, you can`t go wrong.
