Scan firmware 2.14 on hdubois.free.fr - but no info....

Hi All,

Have any firmware mavericks had a go at 2.14? There`s no info with it and as I only had my SC for 5 days I am reluctant to dive in, especially after what happened to Xeno on 2.13

Still love the machine BTW - anybody thinking of getting one but holding back because they are new to DVD and perhaps a store bought Panasonic might be safer? Forget it, the SC2000 does everything, and it does it without needing a degree in electronics.

Now, which firmware is gonna make it silver..... ;o)

RE: Definitive SC2000 FAQ?

Hi xeno,

Thanks for that info!! I just tried it with Erin Brockovich (R2) and it recorded onto VCR no problem.

I think it would be a good addition to the FAQ to specify that 2.08 is macrodissabled without any need for a hack. Also, how to setup the leads as it`s kinda back to front compared to a TV setup.

I wasn`t really going to spray it, I just wanted a silver unit to go with the VCR, digibox etc :o)

Cheers

RE: Definitive SC2000 FAQ?

For those interested.....(new SC-2000 story)....

As posted yesterday, I ordered the SC-2000 and it arrived in one piece today. Setup was dead easy, plug-n-play if you like.

I had to put the VCR thru the SC2000 as my TV only has one viable SCART socket, if I plug any device into the 2nd one it takes over the TV. I now have a very odd SCART setup..

Sky Panasonic Digibox-> Panasonic VCR->SC-200->Panasonic TV and it all seems to work fine.

All my R2 discs play fine, Toy Story2 plays no problem and I haven`t noticed any blue shadow. I played some CD`s with no probs, I knocked up a CDRW full of MP3`s that play fine. I haven`t tested R1 or VCD yet.

So, time to upgrade.....

Using the most excellent FAQ provided by NiVZ (what a great idea ;o)) I upped it from 2.06 (out of the box) to 2.08 using a CDRW and WinOnCD 3.7. A bit scary but only took a few seconds.

I region-free`d it using the hack then went for the macrovision disable hack but I don`t think that worked, it shows 00000003 instead of 00000001. Any ideas?

One thing I would like to know, if I do manage to macro-disable it using a hack, how do I actually record to VCR? Is the setup I have (SCART) suitable? Maybe this is one for the FAQ? :o)

Will post more when I get an R1. Will test VCD tomorrow! So far I reckon this is a v.good machine and worth the money! Can I spray it silver? ;o)

Cheers

David

RE: Definitive SC2000 FAQ?

Fantastic!! Nice one NiVz.

For those who wanted a start to finish experience.....here`s the start :o)

Sent an email to Edward at Scan to place the order for me, this was because of a previous error on one of Scans Today Only pages that had some 12 speed CDRW`s really cheap but they were actually 4 speed so I came to an arangement with Edward about compensation. Anyways, order taken and SC-2000 due tomorrow....

BTW - Thanks for the acknowledgement NiVZ :o)

Definitive SC2000 FAQ?

Hi All,

Well I`ve decided to bite the bullet and go with the SC-2000. Despite all the problems I still feel if you get a working one then it`s the best VFM.

Has anyone put together an SC-2000 FAQ? I know there`s hundreds of articles on here but it`s quite hard to get definitive answers without trawling through a lot of irrelivent stuff. I still can`t work out if the new SC-2000 has firmware 2.06 or 2.08 and whether or not it`s macrovision disabled out of the box etc

Cheers

Scan SC2000 v LG 3200 v ?

Hi All,

(originally posted to uk.media.dvd but would like further opinions)

I have been researching the LG 3200 and the Scan SC2000 DVD players
and there doesn`t seem to be too much between them with the following
exceptions:

SC2000 can play MP3`s
SC2000 has ability to disable macrovision
SC2000 is slightly cheaper

So it`s looking good for the SC2000....But I have few questions
surrounding it that only seem to be half answered on the sites I
visited.

1) To disable the macrovision you need to access a secret menu in
firmware 1.80 - do the newer SC2000`s have this ability or do you need
to downgrade? Does the 2.08 firmware allow this?

2) I have seen a few people grumbling about the picture quality, how
bad is this? Would current owners by this machine again or do they
think it doesn`t meet expectations?

3) The LG is silver! I know that`s really fickle but the rest of my
stuff is Panasonic silver so the SC2000 would look like a sore thumb.
I am obviously willing to sacrifice looks in favour of features but
the features need to be worth having and the display quality is the
most important thing. Bearing this in mind, is there another DVD
player with the same features (or more), including macrovision
disabling (if the SC2000 can still do this) that comes in silver and
doesn`t cost an extra £250 for the privilege?

I hear (from in here somewhere) Scan have a new batch on the 25th, does anyone know if these are newer revisions or just more of the same?

Many thanks

David
