RE: TECHWOOD PLASMA TWP4205/4210
Hi Shazzy,
I had the exact same problem and I was also reimbursed around £750 from Currys (although do note that this was in the form of vounchers only).
I started my process by e-mailing the customer service for currys explaining the problem. I explained exactly what was happening to the TV, when and where I purchased it and how much it cost me. The address I sent the e-mail to was "ecivresremotsuc[at]moc.clpigsd".
I casually mentioned in my e-mail that I was expecting a TV that cost me so much to last me longer than 3 1/2 years, and that I was actually expecting it to last at least 6 years as stated in the Sales of Goods Act 1979. (shows them you have done your research)
They replied a few days later saying as the TV is out of warranty, I needed to produce an engineers report of what the problem is, the likely cause and requirements to repair the problem. I also had to post them a copy of proof of purchase along with the report. They said that should the engineer confirm it is a manufacturing defect, they will contribute towards repair/fix and also refund the costs of obtaining the engineer report.
So I called a few TV repair shops and managed to get an engineer out to look at the TV. He confirmed it was a manufacturing fault (also said it was a common fault with these TVs). He said that as the spare parts are no longer produced, it is beyond repair. He wrote this all in a report which I posted to the address given to me by Currys, along with my purchase proof.
It took a few weeks and a couple more e-mails to customer services to chase up my claim, but I finally got told I could have £695 in Currys vouchers and the cost of the engineer visit refunded to me. They came to that figure by taking the initial amount I paid for the TV, dividing it by 6 to come up with an amount the TV would cost each year for 6 years, and then giving me back the remaining 2 1/2 years or so. these were posted to me about a week or so later.
One more thing - with the Currys vouchers you obviously have to buy a replacement from Currys (not a problem) BUT you need to use the vouchers in-store only, and the in-store prices are generally higher than the on-line prices.
So once you know which TV you want, check the on-line price, and then when in-store tell the store manager you would like the on-line price due to the hassle you have had with this issue. I did that and got the TV about £100 cheaper than I would have if I`d just gone straight in-store and bought something!!!
Hope this all helps, and good luck!!

Same problem with my TV, packed up yesterday.
I`d also love to know what was put in the letter, as I would like to send one to Currys also.

RE: TECHWOOD PLASMA TWP4205/4210
Hello,
I have the same TV, purchased also around 4 or so years ago, and like yourself it has just suddenly stopped showing any picture. Sound works, and the remote seems to work, but just no picture.
Could you please also let me know about your letter to Currys??
many thanks
