For SW download you must register, this is without costs.

Some users reported that software CODEFREE works also on LG RH2000 series recorders.
Originally, CODEFREE was designed for LG RH1000 series recorders.

You can find more articles concerning this nice little software inside DVD reviewer forums.

Two mad replies to my article
Software for copying LG RH recorder HardDisk contents onto PC (Version 1.06) NOW IT REALLY WORKS !
that is too much!

In the past I wrote several informative articles for DVD reviewer, as I believe.
But the response was zero or even mad!
Spread information was coming from an international community of LG RH recorder users.
Each member of this international community is not less proud than an Englishman.
All these persons became real friends to me.

I shall never again publish any information in this strange forum DVD reviewer.
I do not like to waste my time.

RE: Software for copying LG RH recorder HardDisk contents onto PC (Version 1.06) NOW IT REALLY WORKS

I think and I believe, it is a huge accomplishment, that val238 succeeded to develope his software, without availability of a physical HDD of LG RH48xx or RH1000 series, purely theoretical, by means of my WinHex dumps of before mentioned HDDs, to let it work very well on a Windows 2000 system, which he originally did not use !!!

My cordially respect and salute to val238!

Software for copying LG RH recorder HardDisk contents onto PC (Version 1.05) NOW IT REALLY WORKS !

2007-06-28

A new version of software from Russian author val238 got released which allows to read an LG HDD from digital LG recorders by PC and to copy the records onto PC HDD.
val238 made immense improvements compared to limited well working versions 1.01 to 1.04.

NOW IT REALLY WORKS !

I tested it under Win2000 on my Asus Mainboard A7V880 PC with CPU AMD Athlon 3200/400.

Rename copied files from *.str or *.vro to *.vob and you can play them on your PC with SW player PowerDVD or similar.
You may rename them to *.mpg or *.avi and you can edit them by video editing SW.

You can find SW, more details and screenshots in German Forum dvdboard.de

(nicodocet and friends in Italy)

and original information from Russian author val238 on

For using this SW you have to remove the HDD from your LG recorder and to connect it by IDE/USB adaptor or directly by IDE port to your PC.

PLEASE report your experiences, we all are very much interested.

Best wishes, good success and enjoy this highly valuable nice little software!

2007-05-24

A new software from Russian author val238 got released which shall allow to read an LG HDD from digital LG recorders by PC and to store the records onto PC.

My own tests under Win2000 were not especially successful till now, but there are people who succeeeded in reading their LG HDD.
SW development is based on LG RH7xxx recorder and WinXP, it should work for other LG recorder series and Windows systems (Win2000).

You can find SW, more details and screenshots in German Forum dvdboard.de

PS: A new multilingual version will presumably follow this weekend and hopefully bug fixed, so that I may be able to make own successful tests

FIRST UNOFFICIAL FIRMWARE for LG RH1000 series recorder (RH177, 188, 199); Now EP 3h mode

2007-04-12

Our Italian friends nicodocet and #ifndef published their first release of an unofficial firmware based on official FW 60911A for LG RH1000 series recorders as well as for derivates like Aldi/Medion/Tevion MD81335 or Hofer GPX HDR 8160 and presumably also for NEC NDH81, 161 or HITACHI DV-DS163E, 253E.

http://ifndef.altervista.org/index_eng.html

They changed EP mode from 6h lousy quality to 3h acceptable quality on a 4,7GB DVD.
Of course, you may use EP3h mode also for records onto HDD.

I performed certain beta tests for our Italian friends, firmware patch appears to me as stable.

crazy MD81335 (RH1000 Series) Recorder

MD81335 (RH1000 Series) Recorder spielt verrueckt (= crazy)

2007-03-18 R2.0

a) Sometimes recorder starts and works normally.
b) Sometimes recorder circles in an endless loop: Hello, Please Wait, LG Recorder, HDD Check and Hello Again ...
Abnormal termination is possible only by disconnecting AC mains power plug.
c) Sometimes recorder starts normally, but it reacts extremely slow onto remote control commands.
During playback from HDD no fast preview is possible (max 2 arrows),
I did not test Playback from DVD in this context.

Over night I intuitively left the recorder unplugged to AC mains: Since then the recorder works!!! - Temporarily?
But I do not trust this freedom ...

Can anyone report similar adventures?
Are there possibly relations between AC mains voltage dips and short interruptions?
nicodocet reports same problems from an Italian user, Italy is well known for problems with such AC mains effects!

Perhaps LG Service is reading these lines and feels motivated to give an explanation ???
I should like to receive a personal eMail via dvdboard.de. I ensure absolute confidentiality.
I am only interested in a solution of the problem, not in a campaign against LG. I need LG´s kind assistance!

New HDD-DVD recorder generation LG RH2000 series

New Recorder Generation LG RH2000 series
2007-02-14 ... 2007-02-15

Hello nicodocet,

Thanks again for the brandnew information about new LG RH2000 series recorder generation:

Best information on Hungarian LG page (RH265/266, RH277H/278H) including OpManuals:
http://hu.lge.com/proddivergent.do?c...05&parentId=03

Operational Manual RH277H/278H in English and German: (Details in http*.PDF)
http://de.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp

Interesting LG AV and DVD-Rec catalogues 2006 + 2007 on:
http://hu.lge.com/products/mobile/mo...05&parentId=03

In catalogue AV 2007 you can find model numbers up to 298/299 (max 400GB), for RH (AVB-T), RHD and RHT (DVB-T) or RC (DVD + VHS) models (tables with techn. data on pages 54 to 57).

I took following assesments by OpManuals RH277H/278H. Manuals for higher models could not be found.

LG writes, what is not possible as COPY FAST. They do not clearly write, what is possible.
May be that COPY FAST of unedited titles from HDD to DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW VM is possible, but that is nothing.
My favourite format is DVD-RW VR or with upgraded recorder even DVD-RAM.
I do not trust LG statement, neither in OpManual nor in datasheet. I only believe what I can grip with my own hands ...
And when I compare LG´s statements with my own COPY FAST tests (dvdboard.de), my tests say that even on RH1000 series LIMITED COPY FAST was possible.
Only new LG public relation words in OpManual about same old behaviour.

In OpManual they write, that COPY FAST only from DVD VR, i. e. DVD-RW VR, to HDD shall be possible.
Then they write that COPY FAST is not possible from edited title on DVD-RW VR to HDD.
That is exactly what we have on RH1000 series recorders or lower. Business as usual! Alter Wein in neuen Schlaeuchen!

So, I assessed COPY FAST as LIMITED in OPLAb.

Whether it is possible to copy a list of up to 10 titles, we shall have a look on it ...

Then we have to observe, if AUTO really means a kind of JUST FIT copying.
According to catalogue AV 2007 page 54 there shall be an AUTO/Just Fit function for models above RH27x. It is intended for Timer Recording mode onto DVD.

For Dubbing from HDD to DVD there shall be an OPTIMIZED COPY, which determines quality level XP, SP, LP, EP according to source record size and free capacity of DVD.

And why I really dislike new RH2000 series generation is the fact, that no S-Video Input is offered, not in got known models RH265 ... RH278H. So you can not produce high quality DVD copies from your existing S-VHS or Hi8 cassettes, mainly private videocamera records, not from copyright protected records.

The new USB "only" 1.1 input instead of a Memory Card Reader is pretty nice but it can not compensate the lack of missing S-Video Input. I should really like a real bidirectional digital input/output for data transfer between LG recorder and PC.

MPEG2/4 recording at higher model numbers we are used from RH1000 series top models.

LG`s return to front buttons is very nice - the only real progress!

In summary: RH2000 series is not recommendable!, it is no real alternative to actual RH1000 series! RH 1000 prices will decrease, so it is a better advice to buy a low price RH1000 model and to upgrade it by OP Code modification.

!!! All above mentioned arguments are my personal and private assessment and opinion, they are no call for boykott against LG or anywho else! They are only the expression of my deepest disappointment, that entertainment electronics industry persistently disregards the interests of their customers, the buyers of their products. Customer satisfaction, that´s a strange word !!!

Some key details from new LG RH2000 series recorders you will find in OPLab under REC Details.

Software OPLab v1.9d for LG RHxxxx Recorders

2007-01-28

New release of Software OPLab v1.9d for LG RHxxxx Recorders is available,
Freeware by nicodocet, Italy

http://www.dvdboard.de/forum/showthread.php?p=987272#post987272
article #88 (attached file 42kB, English or German default version)

Now it contains a new cross reference and details list for LG RHxxxx recorders
and other nice features.

Release v1.9c got replaced by v1.9d because of in v1.9c many OP Codes got unfortunately lost.
That is a well known problem of international cooperation (I / D) ...

Mysterious Diagnostics Menu
http://www.dvdboard.de/forum/showthread.php?t=107424&page=4
article #78

Some information about the new "diagnostic menu" on RH-1XX series:

1) You have to press "Clear" on the remote control and, after a while, "Program Up" on the recorder.
2) Then you release the "Program Up" button.
3) Then the "Clear" button.
4) Now press "progr UP" or "Progr down" on the remote control... the menu appears stably.
You will found these features:
1 Previous Log
2 Dump to Serial
3 VP State
4 Message Queue
5 Key Test
6 Video Status
7 ATAPI Log
8 ATAPILog_OverTime
9 Test Module
10 System History
11 RecordDebugOSD
12 Dump to MC
13 HDD DB Show
14 HDD ROOT LS

The menu was found by "#ifndef"

We think it`s only a diagnostic menu, but functions 13 and 14 are very interesting: It seems the HDD has its own filesystem... perhaps, someone, with linux can read it!
I asked the ones in our forum who have RH200MHS to try the dump on memory card, but they didn`t respond me!

Region Code Free Method 1 (Firmware Downgrade and ReUpgrade)
http://www.dvdboard.de/forum/showthread.php?p=992375#post992375
article #1

And here is a short translation:

Super Tip of dvdboard.de Forum User FERNSEHTECHNIKER, Germany.

Preparations especially for Hofer GPX HDR 8160 or Tevion/Medion/Aldi MD81335 recorders:
Before Downgrade adjust to LG-RH188H OP Codes.
You can enter OP Code menu by pressing PROGR UP and PROGR DOWN for 6s or more. But release buttons very synchronously, or OP1 value will get accidentally changed!
And before making any changes please write down or make a photo of your own recorders OP Codes!

RH188H
OP1 e8
OP2 40
OP3 31
OP4 60
OP5 0e
OP6 ae
OP7 04
OP8 05

New OP Codes must be saved by ENTER and MP button on remote control (MP key = Menu/List)

RegionCode 0 Tuning (Code Free) is no more possible with Firmware FW 60719A / FW 60807A / FW 60911A by simple "7 times pressing 0" method!

This method works with LG RH177x, RH188x, RH200x, Hofer GPX HDR 8160 (Austria), Tevion/Medion/Aldi MD81335 recorders, therefore
Downgrade to old FW 60519A by CD

Current FW version you can read by
Press "key" Setup
Select Icon with the Lock (no "Enter")
Press "7" "8" "8" "9" on Remote Control

RC0 (Code Free)
1. Open Disc Tray
2. Press key "Setup"
3. Select Icon with the Lock (no "Enter")
4. Press key "0" "0" "0" "0" "0" "0" "0" (7 times).

ReUpgrade to new (actual) FW 60911A by CD
>>> ! RC0 (Code Free) remains ! <<<

Wishing you good success for your Code Freeing !

OLd Firmware 60519A and new FW 60911A you can get by
regrebshcad.tumleh[at]ta.tsewil
or
ofni[at]ed.ten-lkj

FW 60911A you can get also from LG Server Poland
http://pl.lgservice.com/
DVD&VIDEO&SET TOP Device Driver (you can choose English language)
Each FW version about 5.3MB.

FW and actual Loader SL40 may be placed on same CD. For loading insert CD into recorder Disc Tray and choose Audio CD. A small menu will appear and ask what to do. You can choose FW or Loader update or ALL.

Then, I recommend OPLab database, written by nicodocet, Italy. It contains original and modified OP Codes for LG RH recorders for some countries. Before starting this programme please rename the *.e_x_e_ file to its original executable name *.exe.
Inside the ZIP package you will find a short description by Readme.txt file, at first in German language only, but you will hopefully understand it.

Software for LG RH1000 Series Recorder Region Code adjustments

Here it is, a new sensational method for tuning Region Code without necessity for temporarily downgrading Firmware.
In a forum of other DVD friends I found a file RH1000.zip, which contains Update files FW60911A, SL40 and a small software for tuning Region Code RC0...6.

Originally you should create 2 CDs, but you may burn all directories and files for Firmware and Loader Update onto same CD(-RW), the intended function
depends only on the disc name.

If you label the CD RH1000_UP then it will work as Update CD for Firmware FW60911A and/or Loader SL40.

If you label the CD CODEFREE then you may adjust Region Codes RC0 to RC6, in ZIP file you will find a photo showing CODEFREE Menue on TV screen.

Besides the 2CD in One solution here is a light version of CODEFREE which contains structure and files for Region Code Setting only (41kB), and which is
suitable for distribution by a forum.

My up to FW60911A + SL40 modified MD81335 responds not to "7 * 0 method". By CD CODEFREE you may vary RCs as often as you want!

My other compatible recorders of series LG RH48xx and RH7xxx do not respond to CD CODEFREE.

Most articles are published in German language, of course. But I think that some technical knowledge and some translation aids will help you to understand their meanings.

Enjoy your LG !

PS: Another huge project is to develop a digital interface between RH1000 series recorders to a PC, perhaps per UART, an Italian user is intensively enagaged.
If anybody has good and valuable information for us?
