Wharfedale DVD-750 and Yamaha RX-V620RDS
Hi Folks!
I have the above hardware but have a couple of problems:
1) The amp won`t recognise R1 DTS output from the player, only 5.1 (using optical digital cable, the 750 is one of the first models released, I don`t have any R2 DTS disks)
2) There is no code for the 750 to program the `learning` remote. I`ve contacted Yamaha and they have suggested trying each code listed in the amp manual to see if one works - a very time-consuming process!
Any ideas?
Harry.
Future Releases
I stumbled across quite a good site that claims to give release dates of R1 movies. So far they`ve been pretty accurate, reporting the release date of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider long before it appeared on Amazon or Play247.
It`s at:

RE: can u recommend sony strdb940 digital receiver
Raymondo,
The Sony kit does sound good and is reasonably priced, however - be aware that in the unlikely event of it going wrong, you`re going to have a hard job getting it fixed. Sony after sales support (both to end-users and even their distributors) leaves a lot to be desired.
I`ve recently been through the whole buying experience and several `proper` hi-fi shops are ramping down their Sony stock because they can`t get the support they need when things go tilt.
The Denon stuff looks good, but lacks the sonic presence of the Sony or Yamaha amps. The Yamaha RX-V620 RDS is a great alternative to the Sony. Add on the latest Mission M70 range and you`re... ...sorry. I must stop there. The only real way to find out what you like the sound of is to go and listen to a set-up at a hi-fi shop demo room.
Happy Hunting!
Harry.
RE: Blackadder on Region 1
Check out amazon.com. They have 30% off and give some details about content.

RE: THE BEACH £7.99
Mrs. Rocky,
Just check out Tesco each day - they change the `Deal of the Day` every few days and seem to pick either videos or DVD`s at random to sell off nice and cheap.
Does anyone know how to access Tesco`s whole catalogue? They claim at the top of the page `Every DVD on UK release` but I can only find their top ten plus a few others.
One particularly annoying thing about this site (and a few others) is that they lump the videos and DVD`s together. Why haven`t they sussed that if you have a DVD player you won`t want to buy the old-fashioned VHS stuff?
Enough whinging. Happy hunting.

RE: 5% Off all DVDs from WHSmith when purchased through DVD Reviewer
dvd.reviewer.co.uk - whilst we all appreciate the gesture of joining up with WHSmiths for this offer...
Carriage charges.
5% off, then 25% back on again for carriage!

RE: Wharfy 750 and Hollowman R1
Vidall,
Problem sorted. New chip came from dvd.chips.co.uk as soon as I contacted them - I put it in and all is well.

RE: Hollow Man R1 doesn`t work on Wharfedale 750
SUCCESS !!
dvdchips.co.uk - all is forgiven. I was sent a replacement chip, plugged it in and now all is well.
At last I`ve managed to watch Hollow Man (great effects, pretty good film).
So, Illusion16, if (like me) you can`t be bothered hassling Tesco`s and have someone come to your house and do the job for you, check out dvdchips.co.uk and cough up the £21.06 ($30).

Steve,
Thanks for the prompt reply. Unfortunately I was at work and didn`t have access to the order number.
The details are on the way to you now...

RE: Wharfy 750 and Hollowman R1
Guys - don`t spend that hard-earned cash just yet!
I tried the new firmware from dvdchips.co.uk - and it doesn`t work (my Warfy doesn`t even `boot-up` anymore).
I`ll keep you posted to see if it`s a one-off bad chip from them or if there`s a more sinister story to unfold...

RE: Hollow Man R1 doesn`t work on Wharfedale 750
Steve - if only I had the opportunity to make stupid mistake #1.
THE FIRMWARE DOESN`T WORK !
Swapped to the dvdchips E-PROM and the Warfey fails to `boot up`.
Yes, it is in the right way round
Yes, all the pins do sit in the socket
Yes, I did order the right firmware (according to the dvdchips website)
No, there wasn`t any sign of damage to the chip
Yes, I had `earthed` myself prior to starting the job and, luckily for me, putting the old firmware back in did bring my player back to life.
So, is this just a one-off faulty chip from dvdchips or do I just put this one down to experience and write off the $30 as my first duff purchase on the Internet?
Look forward to hearing from you Steve,
HH
RE: Hollow Man R1 doesn`t work on Wharfedale 750
Well Steve, your reputation is on the line (as is dvdchips). I`ve parted with the cash and the firmware arrived yesterday.
Tonight is firware upgrade night...

RE: Wharfy 750 and Hollowman R1
MD - I am in the same boat. Rumour has it that a firmware upgrade is needed to get over the RCE encoding for early 750 players (later ones allow a specific region selection rather than the multi-region selection of early models).
Check out dvdchips.co.uk
I can`t vouch for them as I`ve not got around to ordering the new firmware - but this seems to be the only solution at the moment.

RE: Hollow Man (Region 1)
This is the first title not to work on my Wharfedale 750 (early version).
PANIC!!!
It comes up with the region violation (in all-region mode).
Is it firmware upgrade time, or does anyone know of a work-round?
Hollow Man R1 doesn`t work on Wharfedale 750
I have just got hold of an R1 Hollow Man DVD. It`s the first title that`s failed to work on my Whafedale 750 (firmware version 1 I think). When loaded the region violation worldmap appears. All other R1 discs work fine including Perfect Storm, Toy Story 1&2, Gladiator, MI:2...
Is this due to the RCE thing - and if so, is there a work-round other than firmware updates?
Feedback appreciated...
