RE: LG RH7500 DVD /HDD recorder - first time user!

i have had problems regarding playback of dvds with the lg rh7500.it seemed to start with region 0 discs and now only plays brand new discs which would sound like dirty lens or discs but messing around i have managed to get it to play 5yr old dvds also any help would be appreciated. :(
