Lite-On LVW-5006, disc compatibility and DVD-VR?

Hello there,

I bought one of these machines recently and am feeling a bit 50/50 about it.

BAD POINTS

1 - The first had to go back because the RF connectors on the back had fallen into the machine but to be fair that could be just bad luck.

2 - However I have noticed that it isnt so hot when it comes to accepting all types of DVD-R discs....... I have many films on DVD-R that play on any standalone DVD Player including an old PS2 and 5yr old Panasonic........

BUT....... this machine wont play BulkPaq or Titanium discs, although Ritek ones work fine.

3 - It records onto all discs in DVD-VR format which is not a problem if you only use the machine in the same way as a Video Recorder, but if you want to then copy that film/programme/home movie on your PC to make multiple copies it becomes a bit of a nightmare and you have to try and find software to convert the DVD-VR into something you can then burn back onto another DVD-R disc.

BTW - Anyone know a good piece of software for this task?

GOOD POINTS

1 - Great Picture Quality
2 - Easy to use remote
3 - Looks better in person than on the web
4 - Records on all the different types of DVD Media around e.g. DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, and also on CD-R`s as well.
5 - Allows you to pick the different programs you have recorded on one disc using a series of thumbnail pictures
6 - Allows you to name those programs making finding the right episode of something very easy

All in all if you want to replace your VCR then this is brilliant

If you want to play lots of data already burned via PC onto different branded DVD-R`s then this is not so good.

Any questions that I can help with let me know.

Regards,

Ben
