RE: CH-DVR 1600 Regional Hack

For info: the dvr 1600 is not a very good dvd recorder...so far after copying about 50 vhs tapes it has begn to not finalise dvds any more.

Its replacement I have now is the Liteon 5006 which costs £130 from argos. This machine records in superb quality with the bonus of using ALL types of dvd/cd:
dvd+r/rw dvd-r/rw also standard cd-r to make up SVCD (video files).

I would urge you to seriously consider buying one of these machines - fantastic. If you, like me, have many hours of music videos (mtv etc), this machine will allow you to burn 34 mins (SVCD) and playback on any dvd player with vcd capability.
Also, when you format a DVD, unlike Cyberhome with its "less than 1 2 3 4 hrs", the liteon actually gives you approx 5-10 mins extra on a dvd: 2 hrs is really 2:05:10.

RE: CH-DVR 1600 Regional Hack

Do you know that the ASDA dvr1600 can be used with certain types of DVD-R?

Fujifilm, Intenso, SK and Maxell are the brands which are capable of being recorded using this machine.

Anyone figure out why, when a DVD is formatted and the main menu is shown, it is impossible to get 4 to 6hrs worth of recording? Seems that you loose quite a lot of time!
Also, in SP (should be 2hrs mode) it actually allows you only 115mins NOT 120.
When you want to do multi recordings, and opt for 6hrs, the quality is terrible.
Is this the same for all DVD recorders?
If not, I need a quality machine to transfer all my thunderbirds, midnight caller, monkey, joe 90 etc.
