RE: Pana E50
The speed doesn`t have a relevance (this is for PC burners only)
However, it is known that the Panny as finicky when it comes to discs.
I actually rang Panasonic a while back when I ordered some 4x discs and the supplier sent 8x (when I queried this, the supplier said that 4x were no longer available)
Panasonic said 8x are fine.
If you check the specs of 8x discs, they are actually sold as `1-8x` not `8x` so are a replacement.
I dare say that soon, 8x discs will become obsolete and we will have to use 16x discs on our machines.
RE: Pana E50
With a DVD recorder such as the E50, the speed has no relevance.
I have successfully used the following brands on my E50 and E55:-
Datawrite greys
Maxell
Verbatim
Ridisc
Datasafe
Buy from a source such as:-
cdrmedia, aprmedia, svp or ukdvdrmedia

There are things I prefer on each.
I miss the fact that you cannot adjust the DVD playback picture mode on the E55 (you can choose between cinema, animation and two others on the E50).
Then again,I prefer the moving thumbnails on the E55.
I do find the E50 a much quieter machine though.
I agree, each has its advantages.
The E50 is better built.
Funny, I don`t like the thumbnails on the E55! Because if I am recording a film for someone I feel obliged to put in a thumb of the title!
So I tend to use the E55 as a `source` and use the E55 for recording.
Is it me or is the picture quality on the E50 *slightly* better?
RE: Panasonic DMR-ES10EB DVD recorer
I can`t comment on the DMR-ES10, but the E50 and E55 will record in widescreen, but only onto DVD-RAM, not onto DVD-R.
I would guess that the DMR-ES10 is the same.

RE: After the Philips DVDR610: VHS is NOT dead!
Hi bowfer,
I too have an E50 and an E55, I prefer the E50, which do you prefer?
RE: Panasonic DMR-ES10EB DVD recorer
I have an E50 and an E55 and also a Panny DVD player (I forget the model number). The DVD player does have an eject button on the remote.
Strange.
How does the ES10 measure up?
Any good?
I have read on AVforums that there are some bugs....
RE: After the Philips DVDR610: VHS is NOT dead!
Having used DVD, there is **no way** I would go back to VHS.
All that faffing around to find the end of something on a tape, etc.
Mind you, I do feel sorry for Philips DVD recorder owners, so I understand your argument.
