RE: Advice needed on new DVD recorder with hard drive

Thanks for the replies.
I have to admit,I was very impressed with my old Panny & more than happy with it until it went wrong.
The reason I wanted a DVD RAM machine is because I have about 20 discs that I bought for my old machine, half of them are new & the other half is stuff that I recorded & wanted to be able to watch again.

Thanks again

Advice needed on new DVD recorder with hard drive

Hi.
I bought a Panasonic DMR E65 DVD recorder almost a year ago but after 9 months it started playing up (I was told it was the RAM Drive).I returned it to the shop & they sent it on to be repaired but the repairers took 5 week just to order a new part (which they still have not received) The shop manager said that to wait this long was not acceptable,so he has offered me a credit note for a new machine.
I want to upgrade to a recorder with a hard drive,I also want to keep the DVD Ram recording capabilities.I have picked out a choice of 3 from the shops stock:
Panasonic DMREH50
JVC DRMH50 SEK
Toshiba RDXS24

What do you recommend out of these 3 to be the most reliable ?
I thought my original Panasonic was great but I really want something that lasts longer than 9 months.

Any advice will be welcomed.
Thanks

RE: JVC DRM10EK or Panasonic DMRE55EBS or Panasonic DMRE65EBS ?

Thanks for the reply paul.
Very good advice but the problem is that I`m on a budget of £200 & I would guess that the new models would be more expensive. Not only that,I got the cash burning a hole in my pocket & like a spoilt brat,I want it now :-)

JVC DRM10EK or Panasonic DMRE55EBS or Panasonic DMRE65EBS ?

Hi
I`m going shopping on Tuesday, what advice would you give about these three machines ? (reliability, flexability etc)
JVC DRM10EK
Panasonic DMRE55EBS
Panasonic DMRE65EBS
I have found the DMRE65EBS for a few £s cheaper than the DMRE55EBS in one shop but the DMRE65EBS has a SD/PC Card Slot as well,is there a reason why it would be cheaper?

Cheers
Tony

Any info about the JVC 7SEK DVD recorder ?

If I dont get any joy with my problem I have with my panasonic I bought I will be looking for a new machine on Monday http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=211&Thread=417261&Type=1

RE: Turning off pesky interactive dots on Sky

Well I have managed to find out so far is that it involves a PIC12C508 microcontroller,so the box of tricks that are sold for @ £40 proberly just have one of these pics & a bit of wire in it.
If I find out more or a wiring diagram & if its ok with this forum board owners (it might upset a few people) I will post it.

RE: Turning off pesky interactive dots on Sky

I am Admin & Moderator on a few Satellite sites (we dont normally have anything to do with Sky boxes, just mainly motorized european stuff) & I`m sure about a year ago I read that there is a mod you can do to the Sky box to get rid of the red dot.I`m not sure if this will also stop the use of the interactive parts though. If I remembery rightly I`m sure the mod involved taking the lid of & removing a wire....I`ll try to find out & get back to you.

RE: Problem with Panasonic DMR-E50

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply
I tried to format the new discs but the box would not let me,either the message would be that the discs were protected or not recordable.I have not tried DVD-R discs as I didnt want to but more stuff for it if it is faulty.

Problem with Panasonic DMR-E50

Hi
I think that I`ve just done a wrong `un.I bought a second hand Panasonic DMR-E50 from the dreaded eBay.It came with a second hand Panasonic 4.7 gb DVD-RAM cartridge disc that the bloke said will need formating to wipe it clean.
In about 5 minutes I had the thing up & running,it plays CD,pre recorded DVDs & it also played the secondhand disc that came with it but when it came to formating the secondhand DVD ram disc,it just kept saying "format failed" & then the box would go into "recovery".Thinking that it was proberly just a knackered disc I went out today & bought a pack of five 4.7gb panasonic ram discs & on trying them the box just said the the discs were protected & not recordable.
It seems to me that there is a recording problem with the box itself & not a disc problem & thinking about it now,its strange that the bloke I bought it off did not format the disc before he sent it.
Any info or tips to point me to something I might be doing wrong before I insert it into the bloke I bought it off would be great please.

Cheers
