RE: Grundig Sky box

Doesn`t the sky digibox operate to a different infrared standard from TVs etc? It may not be possible to use the TV remote for controlling the sky box. The sky remote should be able to be programmed to operate your TV though.

RE: Worth getting an HDD/DVD Recorder? Advice please....?

I have sky (not sky+) and use my HDD recorder to record sky transmissions. It works really well. A bonus is that I have bought a device called the PhantomPLUS PVR and it allows the recording of programmes by just using the sky guide personal planner feature to autoview a programme - no setting of the timer programming feature of the recorder.
All you do is select the programme to be recorded in the sky guide for "autoview" and when the programme is broadcast the channel is selected automatically on the sky digibox and the recording is started by a signal from the digibox being transmitted to the recorder by an infrared sender.
Since the HDD has lots of capacity you can go on holiday and leave a whole series of items to be recorded.

Aspect ratio problem - Liteon LVW-5045

FYI I just installed my new Liteon LVW-5045 HDD recorder and have discovered that it cannot provide automatic aspect ratio switching to my 16:9 TV. A tech support item on the Liteon web site indicates that this is a hardware limitation and no quick fix is possible. Otherwise the machine has performed fine. Just seems like a step backwards when I thought I was taking progressive step into digital recording. :/
