RE: DVDR-610 problems
Well, apart from the problem I had immediately after installing BT 26, I have to say that it has worked faultlessly since !!
One strange thing happened - Philips had said that they would send me a disc with 26 on it - that never arrived, but in its place came a scart lead and a letter hoping that it would fix my problems ??? Perhaps some poor chap out there needing a scart lead has received a disc instead LOL.
RE: DVDR-610 problems
Firmware 25 worked well for me with AutoStandby switched off. Unfortunately, firmware 26 which is meant to fix the problem with autostandby kicking in whilst you are recording, seems to have brought the problem back for me ! I have reported this to Philips and am waiting for them to get back to me.
Their support sucks and I am amazed that any company feels it appropriate to charge 15p per minute for customers who have shelled out good money on their crap prodcuts to sit in a queue before speaking to an idiot only to get no problem resolution. They have no incentive to make good products if they earn so well with this telecom scam !
I made them call me back when it started to take too long!
Rant over (for now)
RE: help philips 610
Well, the new release firmware (26) is meant to fix the autostandby problems so I installed it a couple of days ago.
Imagine my suprise when yesterday the bloody thing screwed up again (this time with autostandby switched off).
Do you think they do it just to keep this forum busy ?
RE: help philips 610
Great - looks like they fixed my autostandby problem where it would stop any recording being done !
RE: help philips 610
v 25 firmware did not fix my problems, but Phillips support suggested turning off Auto Standby feature. Since then (1 week) all my recordings have worked fine !
I would recommend making sure this feature (??) is switched off on your machines too.
RE: Philips DVDR610 troubles
Further to my previous post, I installed version 25 of the firmware having been told by Philips that it would cure my problems with the machine jsut stopping recording whenever it felt like it. After installing it, the problem was still there, also whilst watching a dvd, it just switched itself off !
I got back to Philips and they suggested turning off auto standby. I did this and so far the machine has behaved perfectly - I have done several; recordings with no problem whatsoever.
So if you have been having the same problems as me - you now know what to do !
I can`t believe (well maybe I can) that Philips would write the auto standby code in a way that it goes into standby even if you are actively doing something !!!
RE: help philips 610
I am also waiting for Philips to respond to my problems. It should be tomorrow at the latest !
Basically I have the latest firmware installed, but I suffer with the problem where the record just stops part way through (doesn`t matter whether timer or manual). I also have a few other problems too !
I will update this thread when they reply
RE: Philips DVDR610 troubles
Some Sainsbury stores have these for £99 still - though I am not sure if they are worth even a quarter of that..
I actually got mine for £92 - but it will probably be going back today to be swapped for a mico as I am fed up with it!
I have installed the latest software after experiencing numerous faults - timer changing etc.
Now I still have problems - Often manual recording just stops after 10-15 minutes even though there is space on the disc and the recorder has been set for longer.
Timer recordings don`t sometimes !
Disks are sometimes unrecognisable - even though they have been recorded on. later on they will be useable again !
Some recordings do not work properly - eg the when you watch the recording it`s start point will be 20 minutes into the program and it will not let you move back to the bedinninmg very easily. If you do get it to meove back a bit, the picture jumps fand freezes for seconds/minutes and then jumps forward to another scene.
Sometimes it even works properly !
I swore several years ago that I would never buy anything from Philips again after paying £700 for a top video recorder that constantly fell apart as it was made so flimsily, and after suffering their ridiculous support network. I wish I had not been lured by the cheap price as it is a pile of brown stuff !
