RE: YAMAHA DRX-2 YES ???

Thx a lot for your reply. I thought I`d never hear anything on that subject.

I kept the player although it is still not region free. But I found that it does NOT lock after 5 code changes. A lot of pages claim it will lock after 25 changes and I am already at change no. 10 to 15 or something. :)

Of course I immediatly tried your code (008 instead of 001, 002) and before that the player was set to RC1. Your code was accepted and I inserted a RC2 disc (Jurassic Parc 1) and it played !! Then I inserted a RC1 disc (Haunted Mansion) and it played !!! I was the most happiest man on earth when I inserted another RC2 disc (Star Wars Ep.1) and it didnt play (Msg: Wrong Region). I tried RC2 Jurassic Parc again and it still worked. I then tried a couple of RC1 and RC2 discs and it seems like there are some discs of both codings that work and some that won`t.

So at the moment I am not really sure if it is good or not. Some RC1 and RC2 discs will play but quite a few won`t play at all.

Can you give more details on the procedure? Is there more to it? Like unplugging the player after entering the code or something like that? Where did you get that code? Does it work 100% for you and all your discs?

Don`t get me wrong. I am VERY VERY grateful for your posting and the code most certainly did something as I am now able to play (some) RC1 and RC2 discs without entering any code. But sadly, a LOT of discs won`t work at all at the moment (RC1 Pirates of the Caribbean, RC2 Star Wars Ep.1, and many more). So I want to investigate more into this "008". What exactly does it do ...

EDIT: Oh, btw "maxsim_s" did reply by email, but the way he managed to get his DRX-2 region free is by hardware modification (rewriting some eprom if i understood correctly). I am not capable of doing that and also not willing of risking the warranty of my machine so I continue to look for a `code`-based solution.

RE: YAMAHA DRX-2 YES ???

Did you manage to get the Yamaha DRX-2 regionfree? If so please share!!!

I am trying for days now and did not get very far. The Yamaha DRX-2 is in fact a Philips DVDR75. For the Philips DVDR75 there is a very simple codefree hack that works like this:

1.) Either the Philips DVDR75 or its remote control (not sure here) needs to be set in "DVD Player" mode by pressing the "DVD-Player" button on the remote control. <--- This button does NOT exist on the Yamaha remote control !!!

2.) Press power to start the player with no disc inside

3.) Press the keys Play, 1, 5, 9 in a sequence (not too fast)

4.) Now the display will display "-----------"

5.) enter 121 212 005 255

6.) press PLAY on the remote control

This code does NOTHING for me with the Yamaha DRX-2

But:

121 212 005 001 will switch to RC1
121 212 005 002 will switch to RC2

so the whole procedure obviously seems to work to some degree on the Yamaha. I tried 121 212 005 000 for RC0 but that does not work either. I read somewhere that the player will lock the RC after 5 code switches done like this (don`t know if its true or a rumor) so I am hesitating to try around anymore.

I also tried faking the missing "DVD Player" button with a "Philips Pronto" but it was not recognized by the Yamaha.

If anyone can share information to get this Yamaha DRX-2 DVD Recorder codefree I will be more then grateful. I just bought it and I will return it if I can`t make it codefree cause my DVD collections has all kind of RCs. :(
