RE: Toshiba DR1 or Panasonic DMRE55 DVD recorder dilemma - HELP!!!

Well, got home last night and plumbed the panny in.

Totally impressed. Great quality. Pretty easy to use. Love the navigator screen. Videoplus worked perfectly.

The 2 hour setting quality-wise is the best bet for me. Not tried timeslip yet (in pub watching the game last night) but will do tonight.

Ordered 10 Panasonic DVD-RAM discs from svp for £23. Still waiting for them to arrive.

I connect to tv with just RF lead rather than scart. Thought the PIN, postcode, name and address idea was a good one to stop crime.

Really pleased I got it and thanks all for the essential advice.

Well. blow me, I`ve only gone and bought the Pana DMRE55.

Had so many conflicting opinions, but this seemed right for me.

Thanks for all the advice. At some point, you have to decide.

It`s being delivered tomorrow.

RE: DVD-RAM disc recommendations for Panasonic DMRE55

Thanks gang again.

Getting quite giddy about receiving it now. May have to pop out andfand buy a single DVD RAM disc from the local computer shop so i can play with it tomorrow evening.

RE: DVD-RAM disc recommendations for Panasonic DMRE55

Just found 5-packs of Panasonic DVD-RAM 4.7Gb on 7dayshop for £11.99 in slim jewels.

Read a few threads on here and reckon I`ll be alright not having the caddies which seem about twice the price.

Can`t wait to the DMRE55 arrives tomorrow.

Do you know if the DMRE55 comes with a DVD-RAM disc included?

DVD-RAM disc recommendations for Panasonic DMRE55

Just ordered one of these. I know nothing about recordable DVD media, but can anyone point me in the direction of a good deal on DVD-RAM discs which are compatible with this recorder.

Again - big thanks

RE: Toshiba DR1 or Panasonic DMRE55 DVD recorder dilemma - HELP!!!

This is really invaluable advice I`m getting here - appreciate all yourr advice.

Basically, for now I`ll be watching and recording on an analogue coax TV, but in the future I may upgrade my TV to one with RGB.

I will want to be able to rerecord again and again onto discs.

I would like to be able to play these rerecordable discs on other players if poss.

Therefore:

The Panasonic won`t play on other machines (why not if it`s --R/RW? I`m not bothered about it not playing on XBox or PS2)

The Toshiba hasn`t got RGB.

I`ve found a Pioneer DVR220 for £169.99 that has RGB and is -R/-RW, but it`s not multi region. That`s a problem for me. Can it be hacked?

Regarding this:

"HOWEVER - be aware that the E55 does NOT include an optical cable (there is no coaxial out on the E55) so had to buy one - at £20!!! I know I could have got one off the web for about a fiver, but it is a `Cambridge Audio` one and I couldn`t be ars*d shopping around - I wanted to get up and running!"

I don`t mind getting a cable, but can I connect the panny to my normal TV scart or coax?

Sorry if I`m coming across a bit thick here.

Cheers Brooktop - you guys are stars.

How did you get it for £183 - you must have had a competitor price to quote? I assume they can`t be web prices if I buy from instore - the offer is only for instore.

cheers Bowfer.

So you reckon having RGB in long term is better than say having -RW?

Is RAM the better format than -RW?
