Dangling carrots - LG3350 VCD

C`mon, Jimbo - get the mod, tell us all, then sort out macro and you will officially be crowned DVD god-supreme.

The ultimate machine - LG3350, VCD, DTS, CDR, CDRW, VCD, MP3 and it`s silver!

RE: Replacing LG3350 with Aiwa 370?

RE: Replacing LG3350 with Aiwa 370?

Jimbo - thanks for the reply - good to konw that I doin`t have to worry about 5.1 not being onthe DVD i I can get it on the amp.

Mark - thanks for the reply. What was the quality like? How many did you fit on the disc? What resolution. I heard that Nero version 5.1 has a thumbnail option and other goodies, coming out in Feb 2001. Any views on this?

Cheers

RE: Using your Video Camera with DVD

I`ve tried to find out more info on this and found the following links which are v.good:

http://www.cdpage.com/Compact_Disc_Books/whitebook.html
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/2496/vcdfaq.html
http://www.icdia.org/faq/cdifaq7.html#7.13

If you ever get to do it, please post so we can all see.

I`ve heard that the quality is not much better than a good VHS, and with only 70 odd minutes, but they are durable and easier to scan through. You can also record stills to VCD - see third link above.

Anyone else know of any other links?
Anyone done the above?

Julian

Replacing LG3350 with Aiwa 370?

Well, I`ve read the postings on this debate for the last few weeks and, after being convinced to get the LG from Comet (as they said it could play VCD) I am returning it for the Aiwa 370 (great support, Jimbo!)

But before I do - can I confirm that it can do the following:
- play MP3 (not that I have any now but good for the future)
- play scanned in photos that I`ve burned onto a CDR or CDRW (which format, by the way? Photo CD, Picture CD or embedded as still images on a VCD?)
- play VCD (converted DV tapes).
- needs to be able to be hacked and macrovision disabled

Also - I have a Technics Amp with separate 5.1 inputs and digital coax and optical fibre imputs. Can I still get DTS/Dolby Digital from teh Aiwa to my speakers as I`ve enjoyed with the LG?)

The worm turns....... well, he`s thinking about it now.

PS - Jimbo, used your "misrepresented" quote at Comet and they offered refund, didn`t take it until after Xmas so still got to play my DVDs over Crimbo! Ace!)

RE: LG 3350 - hack works but.... wot, no VCD?

Troll/Jimbo - thanks for the response - like the "misrepresented!" I take it you (Jimbo) work for Currys....... I`ve been following the threads on this and figured that you guys, between the two of you, would be able to sort me out.

I think I might be tempted to go for the Aiwa 370, so Jimbo - gimme the names, man!

But help - what does the Dolby Decoder mean? I have a Technics SA-DX940 £500 with 5+1 sub (100w each channel - blows you away!) which has a DVD Optical in as well as 6 DVD channel inputs. does this mean I have the decoder in my amp and therefore have not need for the DVD decoder?

If not, I don`t think I`m too fussed about not having DTS - someone told me that very few disks have DTS and Dolby Digital is enough - would I even have DDigital? Would I notice the difference?

Help!

Julian

LG 3350 - hack works but.... wot, no VCD?

Great machine - my first experience on DVD... bought from Currys and was told VCD/CDR/CDRW/photoCD all OK. Ooops!

Hack works great (thanks IT Troll :) at least I think - "CODE" came up etc but no non-UK (is this R2? see, told you I was a newbie!) discs to test out.

But........what about no VCD??? I have a DV camcorder, wanted to digitally download to VCD - protect DV heads, faster searches, post out to bro in USA etc etc... Also, wanted to convert all VHS tapes to VCD - maybe even record from Sky through TV card on PC to CD rewriter onto VCD (or using MPEG encoder to DVD? anyone know if this is possible?) but all a waste of time if no VCD payback!!!!

Also, wanted to scan in entire photo album onto Photo CD format - fancied getting rid of dusty old albums... figured could get 650 photos on one disc at 100k each (that`s 40 spools! a few years` worth of pics - anyone done this - does the maths work like this?).

Anyway - majorly p***ed off! :@

Any ideas?
