LG DVD-5083 SVCD Hack

I have found a hack on the net for the LG DVD-5083 to enable SVCD playback but I`m slightly worried about trying it. I have done the VCD hack successfully but now want SVCD. The hack seems to be for non PAL players, as mine is a UK player it is PAL. Has anyone successfully hacked a UK player to SVCD and if so what is it? If I do try the hack I have found what do I do if something goes wrong? Is there a way to restore factory settings?
