RE: Zoran Soft DVD player in the Packard Bell Pc
Sorry not much help but thanks for your response - I didn`t know that the PB reverts to region 2 on shutdown. My first region 1 DVDs are currently winging their way from the States and it dosn`t look good for changing my PB many times! I also have a Toshiba 2109 - great picture but no hack. I`ve recently got a Bush 2109 (aka Alba 103) - check out threads http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=176&Thread=7352 and http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=176&Thread=6322 for some enlightining info about ALLEDGEDLY region-changeable cheap Japanese players.
RE: BUSH 2011
P.P.S :- the thread for the Alba 103 thread is http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=176&Thread=6322&Index=7726
RE: Hacks for Alba 103
Owners of the new Bush 2011 - which is supposedly exactly the same machine as the Alba 103 apart from the case being black instead of silver - might also want to check out thread http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=176&Thread=7352
The manual for the Bush specifically states that under the Preferences menu the region of the player can be changed, i.e. on page 21 under `Preferences` there is the heading `COUNTRY/REGION` and next to it a list of countries. Can someone tell me if the manual for the Alba is the same - including the word REGION under Preferences? Also, does the Alba have the standard Region 2 logo on the back of the case? If neither player`s region can be changed from this menu I think this may be a case for the Trades Descriptions folk...
RE: BUSH 2011
P.S. You have probably tried this already but in the instruction manual for the 2011 on page 21 under the `Preferences` heading there is a `COUNTRY/REGION selection and a list of seven countries, including region 1 and region 2 countries. If this option is selected to `USA` and a region 1 disc is inserted and it dosen`t work, this is surely very misleading as the manual explicitly states that the region can be changed under the Preferences menu. There is another thread on the Hacks Forum here about the Alba 103 which has exactly the same setup as the Bush - but for the Alba changing the Region Preference does not seem to work. Are we being ripped off left/right/centre methinks?
RE: BUSH 2011
I`ve tried to buy the Alba 103, which is supposed to play region 1 from the box, from Argos, but their stores appear to have replaced very them very quickly with the Bush 2011. They appear to be EXACTLY the same - the only difference is the name and the colour of the casing. The specification, components and remote are all identical. Have you tried a region 1 disc in your Bush? If not, I`m taking mine back - it`s advertised by Argos as being the same as the Alba, but if it can`t play region 1 it`s hardly the same. I`ve got region 1 discs on order but they haven`t arrived yet, so I can`t tell!

PPS :-
I know (now, having read your original message properly!) you have done what I advised already - try downloading DVD Genie again, from http://www.inmatrix.com/files/dvdgenie_download.html if you haven`t, then changing the region as I advised and trying Genie again. It should work then AS LONG AS the version of Soft DVD is supported. As I said it may be safer not to bother, but what the heck, it`s only money...
RE: Zoran Soft DVD player in the Packard Bell Pc
David, don`t bother with Genie.
On your PC, go to C:\Program Files\Zoran\SoftDVD3 and select Zdvdrgn.exe.
You will find all the info you need to change the region there.
Read the Region Info tab first, then the Regions Explained tab, then when you are sure, you can easily change the region from the Select Region tab. You even get a nice map of the world ;-)
P.S. DON`T forget you can only change the DVD region a number of times - probably four if yours is the same as mine - before it locks.
Unfortunately the program dosen`t have Region Free, but it`s safer using it than messing about with downloads.
