RE: PHILIPS 890 MULTI REGION - REVERSE HACK!!!

Hi Alan
Yes Ive been successful in playing RCE disks (eg Black Hawk Down) no problem..... soon as my ability to write to DVD+R is sorted I will be a very happy chappy!!

I think my firmware is 12

RE: PHILIPS 890 MULTI REGION - REVERSE HACK!!!

Hi Paul

I find it hard to believe that the recorder allows you to do things it shouldnt do then if thats the case.....Im not sure how you insert chapters on the fly as you have to go into edit mode and pause at point you want the marker (thats where mine has bombed out)

And thanks for other tip although I have tried that as well as holding "clear" as it says in manual but neither work....when tray closes and disc is read I still get the same message appear that the "Disc contains unknown data - please press OK to eject"

I have the retailers, Empire Direct, picking recorder up Friday morning for testing and if faulty, as I beleive it is, they say they will replace with new....we will wait and see....the more I read on variuos forums the more I think that Philips havent quite perfected the consumer version yet.

Im still to here from Philips engineers as there call back has been nearly 4 days now and still silence.

Let me know if you find out anymore and ill do same m8

RE: PHILIPS 890 MULTI REGION - REVERSE HACK!!!

Very strange...... thats another problem Im getting but not as lucky if you can call it that in it simply not updating...... when ive tried to insert a chapter marker (on DVDR) it has again trashed disc totally......yet again on DVDRWs it will let me split titles and do what I want fine.....

RE: Philips DVDR890 Nightmare

Hi Paul

Have you had same problems too?

RE: PHILIPS 890 MULTI REGION - REVERSE HACK!!!

Many thanks........

Im only having probs on the DVD+Rs in so far as it seems fine when I record onto them but if I go and edit the picture (sometimes) but usual the title name from default to something more meaningful it says "storing new name" or whatever but will then give me a Disc Error message and make the DVD+R totally unreadable....... Ive lost 5 disks on the trot so far......Its also even scrapped a disk where Ive simply pressed record and it seemed ok for a few secs then the Disc error message again.....

As for DVD+RW and pre recorded films its perfect...allows you to do anything...... Ive tried differnt batches of DVDRs but its getting too expensive now to keep trying! Ive reset the machine to factory default but hasnt helped.....

What are you getting problem wise?

RE: Philips DVDR890 Nightmare

No idea as yet Im afriad.......im reading a lot about similar problems with this type of thing ... i have made mine multi region so wondered if that could be part of it but I dont think it is.

Im still waiting for a phone call from phillips engineers as they say they havent come across this before.....mine does play R1 and R2 fine and records DVD RW with editing etc perfectly....its just when recording and really the editing of the DVD+Rs....

How can you check which firmware version its has ? I have read somewhere its also possible to upgrade that by downloading it (I assume from philips) to CD-R and running this disk in the machine....

Im not sure which version of the firmware mine is....

PHILIPS 890 MULTI REGION - REVERSE HACK!!!

Anyone out there now how to get my Philips 890 back to region 2 only from making multi region using One4All remote??? I may need to return machine as its playing up recording to DVD R (not as a result of hack) but I want to return in same state so need to reverse back to single region only, to avoid any agro on warrenties....

Many thanks

RE: Philips DVDR890 Nightmare

Hi there DJPD
Just read your post from earlier.....Im having same problems with DVD Rs in so far as they keep crashing out and scrapping disk if I go to edit the title name or sometimes the image.....even had a disk error and another scrapped disk a few seconds after simply starting up a recording.... did you send yours back??

Also have you hacked recorder to make it multi region???

BTW bought mine from empire Direct as well
