I popped into my local store today and saw them for £39.99 and nearly bought one then - has coaxial digital out and optical out to hook up to my amp (also has 5.1 outputs if anyone can be bothered with that). Only shortcoming I can see is it only has one scart socket, but for £30 I`m more than prepared to accept that!

If you get it delivered to your local store you don`t pay postage either, saving yourself a tenner on the instore price :).

Along with what looks like everyone else, I suspected this to be a dodgy outfit.

So I did a whois for the domain and a couple of things concern me,

1) No address provided (backed up by the postcode not matching as mentioned prev.)
2) Registration date of 18th October 2004

Tie the above in with only accepting Nochex, the super cheap price, amateur website, suspicious feedback...

I only hope everyone is fully informed before deciding to deal with this company.

I can safely say I will not be touching them.

Must be a regional offer, just been to the Co-op in Newcastle with my VISA card and they`ve got them, but they`re still £1149, not including a dvd. As a result I`ve returned home empty handed :(

Evolution X is simply the menu application, everything in the menu is an independent application stored on your hard drive. If XB copy isn`t on your hard drive then it won`t appear on your menus. You may want to download it from the web/IRC/newsgroups if you don`t have it. Once you have it, to put it onto your Xbox you could write it to CDRW, DVD+/-R or DVDR+/-W or learn how to use ftp. I recommend http://www.xbox-scene.com for background reading, there`s everything you need to know on there (and loads you don`t need).

To transfer files to your xbox you need a network card (or similar) in your PC, then you can "ftp" (file transfer protocol) files to or from your xbox. So you need to network your PC to your xbox. If you don`t know a RJ45 from a bar of soap then you`ll want to do some background reading on networking. In short it`s cheapest and easiest with a network card in your PC and a crossover cable that`s long enough to run from your PC to your xbox (shouldn`t cost more than £20 for the card and cable). It sounds daunting to start, but once you figure out the basics (and it isn`t rocket science, I can do it and I`m thick) then you`re up and running.

There`s loads of great ftp programs out there for the PC. Pick one and away you go.

You can back-up your games to your hard drive using "HDD Loader" or similar. You can manage the files on your hard drive using Xcommander or similar, but I generally use ftp as it`s easiest for me.

For Sale: FS: Sony Playstation 2 and all the gubbins to go with it

For Sale, Sony Playstation 2 with NEO2.2 modchip fitted and umpteen games (too many to list). Comes with extra Sony controller, Sony 8mb memory card, extra scart lead, DVD Region X (makes PS2 multiregion DVD player), Namco PS2 Light Gun.

I can also throw in a Jaguar steering wheel and pedals, but it can be temperamental.

It`s all boxed stuff and in very good condition, ideal for a gift!

Some of the advantages with a modded vs non-modded xbox are you can play "homebrew" software (in my case mainly emulators and xbox media player) and back your games up to your hard drive, so no more faffing around with discs, just switch the xbox and and select your game from the menu. There is also a multi region dvd player, so you don`t need to £20 M$ dvd movie kit. Xbox media player allows you to play mp3s, movies, digital pictures, add ons also allow you to play "shoutcast" radio stations from around the world (assuming you`re hooked up to the internet too). There`s loads of reasons to install a mod chip.

It`s not all good though, if you use xbox live and have a mod chip installed (and enabled) then you earn yourself an instant ban from the M$ live service :(

Either way modded or not you`ll want to get your xbox hooked up to your PC to allow you to play arguably the best xbox game (halo) online (via multiplayer), as it does not work with xbox live.

Put quite simply, if you just want to play games and don`t fancy using your xbox for anything more than that then you probably don`t need a modchip, hard drive or any of that stuff, just buy your games and play `em! If you want to play mp3s, watch movies, back up your games, etc. then you should consider a modchip and larger hard drive.

The standard xbox has 8GB of usable disk space. The 5GB mentioned is the available space on a standard E: drive, which is usable space on an xbox. many games are > 4GB so you can see it won`t last long if you want to place games on the standard hard drive. That`s why people fit larger hard drives (120GB is a good size).

I`ve got a cheapmod in my xbox (along with most of my mates) and I`ve had no problems with it. Unless you have a specific requirement to have more than one bios installed in your xbox then I would recommend the cheapmod (not to mention saving a few quid!).

I don`t know what your level of knowledge is like, but you may want to find out about "ftp" and networking your xbox with your PC if you want to get the most out of a modded xbox.
