how do you you know it has reverted back to region 2, if you are checking this using the firmware screen then you are setting it back to region 2 as the firmware screen resets the player back to factory defaults (Region2 in your case), just apply the hack using the disk and play your other region dvd, it does work as i have a toshiba 420 and that is also an lg 5000 series clone...

yes can play svcd & vcd have still to try mp3 but says it can on the box have not got any dvd-r disk so can`t try this
also can be made region free using the hack for lg 5000 players at this web address, ( http://www.choosefirst.co.uk ) you will have to make the cd though, and i will not be held responsible if it messes up you dvd player, but it worked on my uk spec toshiba sd-420e
ALBA 108 SEARCH FOR VCD PERMANENT HACK

Not yet. However, there is a menu you can access by pressing 2812 while the drive is out, and then pressing enter. I don`t know how myself, but there may be a way to do it via that.
does anyone have an alba 108 that can play vcd`s without the goto hack that would post the settings in this menu????
