well opened up the sky + box and the noise that is driving me mad is coming from the hard drive. You can clearly hear the hard drive whirring away, but there is this other noise like something scratching inside the HD. When the Sky + is in standby, blissful silence. I can only assume that the HD is on its way out. Can i assume that any HD purchased will fit straight into this Amstrad HD180 Model, or i am limited on HD size.

sashenden, The Sky + records ok, so not sure if hard drive on its
last legs, just got home from work, so i will look at taking the lid off and see what happens.
SKY + PROBLEM
Bought a second hand Amstrad Sky + box off a mate, all connected with sky, but one annoying problem with it, when the machine is powered up there is a low scratching type sound coming from the box, can only be heard if you turn the volume down on the tv. When machine is in standby mode the noise disappears, so something must be catching inside of box, wondered if any one else come a cross this problem and if so whats the remedy if there is one.
Samsung Lcd & Home Cinema System
Recently purchased Samsung 32 Lcd Tv and Samsung Home Cinema system, Brilliant picture and sound when watching play back through Dvd player, but how do i get same effect through watching films on just the Tv. Any help would be grateful, thanks in advance.

NO1STAN, This hack definately works as i use it every day on my machine, the nack is getting to hold the GOTO BUTTON pressed down as the disk is loading in to the machine, this hack or though a bit messy is the only way possible at this moment in time.
Keep trying it took me about 30/40 mins to suss it out the first time i used it.

Try the following, load a svcd/vcd disk, as the disk is loading, press and hold down the "goto" button on your remote control(it will take practice).if you are doing it properly, one of 2 things will happen, the disk will automatically start playing or you will be presented with a task bar at the top of your tv screen.You will see the format that is going to be played, ie svcd/vcd and four dashes in the left hand corner. all you have to do is press the buttons "ooo1 on your remote and then the play button.
The disk will then play.

Just bought the same machine from richer sounds, the older version of this model played everything. If i can`t find a hack, its going back to the shop.There is a hack though for multi region, found it in www.vcdhelp.com forum.

this dvd player will play svcds with no hacking at all, but will not entertain vcds, anybody got any ideas.

I have the GOODMANS 135, this hack should play on all goodmans dvd players.First of all load the vcd into the machine, as you do this, hold down the "GOTO" button on your remote control, (takes a bit of timing).You will get a menu bar at the top of the tv screen, which should automatically load the disc. If the disc does`nt load from the menu bar, just press 0001 on the remote, and hey presto the svcd/vcd will play.
This also works on Alba dvd players.
