SKYWORTH 3650 - New Denver Firmware ?!!

I have just been onto the Denver Electronics site and they seem to be linking to a new "unofficial" firmware version for the Denver 188 DVD player made by the MTZ website a couple of weeks ago. They are credited with thanks for the firmware on the Denver site.

I know that a few people had flashed their Skyworths with Denver firmware to address jerky playback issues - but has anyone flashed their Skyworth with this new version ? Features seem to be as follows:

1. Big subtitles, white, outlined with black.
2. New fonts for menu and subtitles.
3. New backgrounds; english OSD "re-translated" in 188 version.
4. Added support for all European languages.

Can anyone who has tried this let me know the outcome ? eg Are the buttons on the player still incorrectly mapped ? Is the welcome screen still corrupted ? Is the OSD improved at all ?

Finally, if I were to brave it and try the file for myself, is it possible to flash back to the Skyworth firmware if anything goes wrong, or is this a "one time only" operation ?

Cheers !

Can You Change Background Image On Diamante 3000 ?

I know some DVD players can be tweaked using Firmtweak - but is there any way to change the Mico Diamante 3000 background image ? Ideally Id like to use one like the funky one from the old Encore DVD450 !

Cheers !

RE: Is the ALBA 108 VCD Enabling Patch Available From Mico ?

Just had a reply back from Mico Tech support - suggesting I contact Alba.....!

Ive also followed a similar route - appealing to the tech support workers "better side" and asking if they can either email the Advinia firmware to me "unofficially" or perhaps point me to a nice ftp site where I can download it.....!

If that fails I will go down the "setup a hotmail account, claim to be Brit living in Hong Kong with "frozen" Advinia 108 who has been advised to try reapplying the firmware by getting it from Mico tech support and buring it to CD.......! :)

Is the ALBA 108 VCD Enabling Patch Available From Mico ?

Ive read the thread concerning the Mico Diamante 3000 firmware and Ive rang Mico Tech support today to ask if they have the firmware for the Adivinia 108 player (Alba 108) and I was told they do not have a listing for that model....?

Is there now a firmware patch which works to enable VCD playback for the Alba 108 or is the previous thread just referring to the Diamante 3000 ?

Cheers !

RE: Mirror DVD player for £69.99 at staples

I purchased one of these players and have to say that for the money it looks very good. It wont quite play all of the DVDRs which my Alba 108 will play (skips on a Choice Gen 3 DVDR and wont play 1 of the 3 films on one of my multi DVDRs) but it plays SVCD, VCD and JPEG files and the unit looks really nice.

I may end up keeping both (2 machines for £140 which handle all discs between them !)

Help Needed ! Ntsc Problem With Pacific 1002 On Panasonic Pk28 Tv !

I really need some help here guys so I hope one of you can throw some light on this problem !

Ive tried a number of DVD players with my Panasonic pure flat PK28 TV and a few of them (including all cyberhome players and Pacific/Schneider players) produce a kind of "strobing" effect on my multi standard Panasonic PK28 TV when the output is switched to NTSC mode under RGB output.

The display is 100% fine under PAL and is OK on VCD when outputting NTSC - so I am beginning to wonder if the problem is to do with the Macrovision on the DVD side of things ?

I have used an ALBA 108 player and a MICO Classica 20 player on the TV and they gave no problems when outputting NTSC via RGB so Im at a bit of a loss to know what to try next ?

Im currently "testing" a Pacific 1002 player from ASDA, and will happily keep the player (its played everything Ive thrown at it so far) if the annoying NTSC problem can be resolved ?

Is there a macro removal hack for the Pacific 1002 player yet - or alternatively has anyone else with a Panasonic PK28 (or similar model) experienced similar difficulties ?

Thanks in advance !

ALBA 108 & DVDR - Problems ??

I have an Alba 108 DVD player and it has problems with a few DVDRs that other players (the CH402 for example) have no problems with.

When I skip through chapters on my Alba I get the "correcting disc error" message. Then after a few seconds the player resumes play, but quite often the display doesnt display the actual time - for example, on my Grease DVDR it can skip to chapter 10 but the display still only shows say 4 mins 30 secs, and continues to count along (incorrectly !) as the DVDR plays.

I know for a fact that the DVDR discs which I have problems with have no such problems on other players, so I know that the discs themselves do not have "disc errors" as the player suggests every time I ask it to skip a chapter !!

Any suggestions ? (eg is it possible to adjust the laser on the player ?) or would I be best to take it back to Argos - assuming I can fing the receipt OK...?

Cheers !
