RE: Samsung DVDS224 / DVDS225 Review and Hack

Macrovision is definately disabled.......

I have recorded numerous DVDs (different regions, PAL & NTSC) onto a toshiba VCR and onto my PC via a capture card.

The 225 looks different in that the centre 1/3rd is all black including the tray unlike the 224 which has a black stripe across the lower half.

Samsung DVDS224 / DVDS225 Review and Hack

New in the shops to replace the apparently outgoing M105 model are the Samsung DVDS224 and DVDS225 models. (These now play MP3 disks)

The unit retails at around £129.00ish and seem excellent value. I am very pleased with my DVDS225, good picture and sound quality.(SCART + S.Video, Dolby 5.1 + DTS)

(Comet stock the DVDS225 but you have to ask for them, it seems that they are only displaying the old M105s until they are gone! Currys and Powerhouse seem to have the DVDS224s. I believe that the difference is purely cosmetic in that they have different facias.)

I have successfully used the following hack to enable multi-region and macrovision removal on my DVDS225.

Switch on the unit ensuring that no disc is present.

Press and hold play and stop buttons on the unit (not the handset) until the language region menu appears on the screen.

Enter the number for your language. (English=1)

Press `Repeat` on the remote control.

Enter the following code (for region 2 players) 5 7 5 3 8

Press 9 for region free play.

Press the open/close button on the unit.

Press the standby button on the remote control which will close the tray.

Wait at least 5 seconds.

Switch back on......enjoy!
