RE: LG DVC 8700

Found a hack prior to this that worked a treat, watching DVD Region 3s no problem.
Do the following:

1. Press the Pause button on your remote control
2. Using your remote control enter the code 3, 1, 4, 1, 5 and 9 Note: If your unit does not enter the following mode which enables you to enter a region code, repeat steps 1 and 2. You may need to enter these codes in a shorter time span for them to work.
3. Press the 0 button on your remote control for Region free, 1 for Region 1 or 2 for Region 2.
4. Press the Pause button on your remote control
5. Power off your player and wait a few seconds
6. Power on your player

RE: Bush DVD2523 - Macrovision

Hi Snafu,
just ordered one of these external video conditioners, tell me how good these are relating to `backup` quality etc.....

PS I will be using this on my Alba DVD 114, do you think there will be any issues?

Cheers, Scoby.

RE: Pacific DVD 750 Macrovision hack (Makrokey)

As I got absolutely no feedback from the supplier I decided to do some simple experiments. As the picture was perfect I decided that the Makrokey was kind of working and as Macrovision does not effect the sound then there must be a faulty contact. Opened the small box to find a jungle of wires and really crappy soldering. A simple reflow of the solder joints at the female scart sockets was all that was required, oh and fixing the composite video out wire that had fallen off too at the macro remover circuit!!

Overall, crap service / quality and initially crap results. Works fine now and I have no issues. Backups working a treat

But I would not use this supplier again, although maybe I was just unlucky. ;-)

RE: Pacific DVD 750 Macrovision hack

Got mine and got the picture perfect for `backing up` Tomb Raider, but alas no sound. Sending it back for a replacement Makrokey.

Totally disappointed with the customer service of Smartchips, they do not answer phones, reply to emails or faxes and their web site has most of its links not working. So much so that I have contacted Which Web Trader who are putting their complaints team on the case.

Well done John White at Smartchips, great way to do business!!! Post a correct phone number on you site so I can contact you.

RE: Pacific DVD 750 Macrovision hack

Finally received the Makrokey cable on Saturday. Not tried it yet but my mate at work who bought one at the same time tried it and was very happy with the results. Simply plug in and go (adjust small variable resistor if neccessary). My mate `backed up` Harry Potter and Mummy Returns with no issues so sounds good to me :-}

Will post my own results once I have tried it out but I am sure I will see no problems.

RE: Pacific DVD 750 Macrovision hack

Please explain yourself. I have not received the cable yet (after 6 days) so therfore I have not tried it.

Why are they rubbish? The description sounded good and Biteman agreed.

Have you tried the Macromaster as recommended by Biteman?

Biteman, any comments - especially wrt the Macromaster?

Let me know.

RE: Pacific DVD 750 Macrovision hack

Excellent biteman! Found one before I got your reply though. Same price £30. It is called the Makrokey and has a dual output and it automatically switches PAL / NTSC. Good point is that you get a 30 day trial, if not happy send it back. Have a look at the following link and let me know what you think.

PS Keep up the good work and let us know the VCD hack when you get one. :-)

RE: Pacific DVD 750 Macrovision hack

Thanks for letting me know. This means I can stop searching the web now for a new hack. Where can I get such a cable as I will buy one as soon as I know.
