Toshiba SD210 - Multi-region

A little while ago I asked about multi-region DVD players and how they might be affected by the RCE coding appearing on some discs.

The answer was that, provided you have a manually selectable region multi-region player then you`re OK.

But, I`m on the verge of purchasing a Toshiba SD210 which I notice has its multi-region capability based on a chip rather than a remote hack. I assume this means it automatically detects what region the disc is and plays it accordingly but is this likely to give me a problem with discs with RCE protection ??

The main reason I ask is that sites like www.cdwow.com advertise DVDs at sensible prices but state that you need a multi-region player. Seeing as the CDs I ordered from them came from Hong Kong I`m guessing that the DVDs might originate from the same region and, quite frankly, I wouldn`t want to have to send one back there if it didn`t play properly.

Is RCE going to become more prevalent or is it mainly region 1 discs that are affected.

Should I just stop worrying and get the Tosh ??

RE: Multi region player`s worthwhile ??

My understanding of Mike G`s response above was that I should look for a multi-region player that allows you to manually choose which region you want to use, either from the hand-set or some other method, i.e. don`t rely on one that does it automatically.

Or have I missed the point ?

RE: Multi region player`s worthwhile ??

Thanks chaps. Looks like I might be making a few calls at the weekend !!

Multi region player`s worthwhile ??

I`m in the market for a £200 DVD player and top of the list is the Toshiba SD210.

The cheaper ones on offer are region 2 but for a small premium the multi-region ones seem to be a good idea, i.e. allow me to get discs from the US, etc.

However, with the introduction of the enhanced regional coding (REC ???), will my multi-region player be effectively reduced to a region 2 player, or possibly worse, i.e. is struggles with *any* region with the REC coding ??

Apologies if this is a commonly asked question but a quick trawl through the messages didn`t really answer the point.
