RE: Hack for the Dansai 852, please!

No worries, Maybe I should clarify what I found. When I insert the Hollow man & Final fantasy discs I get the world map screen. Then I entered the key sequence I posted and the film began to play. If you try to select chapters from the menu you will get the world map screen again. So it is not a fully working hack agreed but it does allow you to watch the film at least.

I do not have a copy of the Patriot (R1) but I take Steves word for it that it does not play so this is not a good solution it seems for RCE discs. I agree with Steve that the only solution for now is a mod but I will wait and hope for a full handset hack to emerge as I have been down the road of frying mainboards before (I have the soldering skills of a herring!!)

One strange thing is that my player is putting out a Macrovision signal. I get a greenish tinge to the colour when outputting in RGB and when trying to videotape from a dvd I get the tell tale white flecks and distortion on the picture. Could there be different versions of this machine perhaps?

Still, its not bad for £99.49 is it?

Good luck to Steve with your chip for this player.

RE: How to play RCE discs on Dansai DVD852

I have found an RCE disc that does not work using this method, Titan A.E. (R1)

The disc seems to have the player check for the region code before each chapter rather than just the root menu.

If I find a solution to this I will post again.

RE: Hack for the Dansai 852, please!

It does work. I am not in the habit of wasting everyones time. I have since found 1 RCE disc that will not work with this temporary workaround which is Titan A.E. It seems that this disc has the player check for the region code before each chapter as well as before the root menu so even though you can access the root menu with the workaround I posted I have been unable to find a way to get the film to play.

I will let you all know if I have any success with this disc.

How to play RCE discs on Dansai DVD852

Just found this workaround that allows RCE protected discs to run on the Dansai DVD852:

Power on
Insert RCE dvd
RCE `world map` screen is displayed
Press stop twice
Press title
Press play.

Works with both region 1 RCE discs that I own (Hollow man & Final fantasy)

Have Fun!!
