RE: Sky are broadcasting in DTS 5.1 now, but are there any Digiboxes out there...

Optical link output on the Sony Digibox... Doesn`t that mean it can output the audio information to a suitable 5.1 decoder?

By the way what`s PCM?

£100 for the new box.... now that sounds much better. I will certainly go out and get one. Let`s just hope we get it at that price soon.

One more thing, does the sony box you mentioned come in Silver.

Thanks

Sky are broadcasting in DTS 5.1 now, but are there any Digiboxes out there...

As far as I know, Sky are now broadcasting in Dolby Digital 5.1 format...

That sounds great. Doesn`t it. Something we have all wished for I am sure over time.

But are there any Digiboxes outhere with Digital audio outputs, needed to decode the 5.1 information in the signal apart from the Sky plus box @£350 that is on offer.

If not, are there any workarounds to this problem.

Thanks.

RE: Yamaha 320 Sub with the Mission M72`s or the M74`s

Thanks mate...

For all your information and reassurance too...

RE: Yamaha 320 Sub with the Mission M72`s or the M74`s

Wowww.. That` s a couple of votes either way.

Thank you all, for all your opinions and help. I guess I might as well stick to my original choice, the M72`s.

Believe it or not Richard, it was your thread and Westy`s reply back in October that tipped the balance in favour of the M72`s. Its good to see you guys still backing your original recommendations. By the way Richard, what do you think of your setup now that, I am sure you have broken them in with a good solid workout. You happy with them?

Westy.. What ever do you mean by mission`s sounding `commercial` as compared to the Accoustic`s??

Thanks all.

RE: Yamaha 320 Sub with the Mission M72`s or the M74`s

Thank`s Richard..

The thing is... I ordered M72`s cinema package from QED, but when they finally arrived after 4 wks last week, they were in black and not in beech as I had ordered. And guess what, now they don`t have them in stock anymore.

Anyway as I will be ordeing the acompanying mission stands for the speakers @ £47/- I thought why not just buy the M74`s instead for the extra 40 odd quid as you suggested. But the question is, does one actually gain anyhing by getting the M74`s. Your don`t think the music clarity will be lost by having the M74`s also perform some of the bass duties, as it`s frequency range is wider than the M72`s.

And yes I will be listening to some music from the same sytem as well but it will mainly be a Av system.

Thanks for all your help...

Yamaha 320 Sub with the Mission M72`s or the M74`s

If you already had the Yammy 320 sub taking care of the base...
Would it be preferable to go for the Mission M72`s or the M74`s, especially since there is only £80 difference between the two.
The room they will be going in is 12 x 25 foot.

Thanks.

P.S.I have the Denon 3802 for AV amp

Cable interconnect recommendations for a Denon AVR3802 based sytem ??

Choosing the right cables fo your AVsystem seems to be even more difficult than buying the AV hardware.

Westy.. on your recommendation I have ordered the Denon 3802 and the the Mission M72 speaker package along with the Yammy 320 SW combined with the Toshiba 36ZP18P, a Toshiba 210 DVD player, a Sony SLV 810 Video and the Sky Digibox. Phew!

Now, what can I do in the way of appropriate interconnects between all these items?

I have read previous threads on the forum regarding cables and the following seem to be good buys..

Qed Silver Anniversery (loudspeakers) ...... £4.00 /m
IOXS 1081 (Subwoofer)..... £8.50
Ixos 1005 or 1006 (coax).... £30 / £40
Qed Squart £40

But are these appropriate to my system... or can I get away with using cheaper versions like Btech XV21 @£10-£15.

And what phono `component` leads do I need to connect the Tosh DVD player to the Tosh Telly.

I have also seen speaker wires at www.maplin.co.uk like the Shark (1000+ strands, OFC etc etc !!!!) for £3.49 are these any good?

By the way what is this biwiring stuff? Is it where each speaker drive unit is driven seperately, but are all speakers biwirable?

Any suggestions for some decent Speaker Stands for the Missions?

Thanks..

Is the Toshiba 42WH18B R.P. related to the excellent 40WH08 & 56WH08 ?

Having seen both the Toshiba 42WH18B rear projection TV and the Toshiba 36ZP18P priced similary, I am considering buying one or the other .

Now, I have found several reviews on the later CRT model but nothing on the R.P model. Anyone know of some reviews on this machine or have any personal experience of one.

Any help greatly appreciated.

RE: So you buy the much talked about Denon AVR 3802.... What next?

Hi there you can get to see the set on the following site...

http://www.ishop.co.uk/ishop/719/shopscr11.html

But really really have to see it to really appreciate it.

I have also seen the above set at Bentalls in Kingston. Don`t know if that any good for you. Apparently Sevenoaks hi-fi also stock them though I didn`t see them on their site.

By the way you can read a few reviews on these tellys on home cinema choice online site

Hope it helps.

RE: So you buy the much talked about Denon AVR 3802.... What next?

Thanks Andrew.

Went to John Lewis yesterday to check out the Loewe you suggested. Woww!!! You certainly weren`t kidding when you said they were stunning.
They only had the aconda model and it certainly wiped the floor with all the other tellys around it. The picture was the clearest I have ever seen and design to kill for!!!, but at £1800/- I think I will wait until Plasma comes into the same range. Particulary as I heard that the picture quality suffers a bit on digital transmissions.

Toshiba 36zp18p also looks great, but at £1500 its still a bit pricy. Know of any 36` models going for a little less. (like £1350 perhaps)

RE: So you buy the much talked about Denon AVR 3802.... What next?

That`s great Westy. You certainly have a panache` for writing.

Thank`s for putting everything in it`s context through your insider knowledge and experience.
And with that foresight, I am almost sure to go with the Denon AVR-3802 combined with the Mission M72 Package along with the Yammy 320 subwoofer.

As I have a backlog of old VHS tapes and am a great fan of SCi-Fi, especially Star Trek on the Digibox, I think the AVR 3802 with its Prologic II and DTS NEO:6 will be particularly suited; and it will still have plenty of reserves for when I decide to get the M70`s and maybe even
decide to update to the M& K package you suggested in time !!!
Well one can hope, can`t he !!!

So do you think I have made the correct decision, given this particular situation, with the information you passed on to me?

However this creates a new problem...
With all this great sound catered for. What can you get in the way of a decent picture? There are all these expensive models out there, presumably because they are offering some of the Home Theatre features that we already have and don`t need.

Aren`t there any basic audio & Great picture Tellys about?

Any suggestions..... greatly appreciated.... Otherwise this Home Cinema will have to Shut it`s doors before it starts....

Thanks.

So you buy the much talked about Denon AVR 3802.... What next?

Thinking of buying the much talked about Denon AVR3802 (around the £630.00 mark) but quite unsure about the possible speakers to go with it...

I have been toying with the idea of getting the Mission M72 package (£267.00 ) from www.Qed-uk.com plus the Yammy YST-SW320 (£276)subwoofer to go with the system, but I am not quite sure whether these speaker are upto the job with this amp.

So how does this setup sound? Can I get differnet speakers for roughly the similar price like the Tannoy MXAV4 or should I, tenatively may I add, go for a different amp Yamaha AX620 or Sony STRDB1070 or even one of the earlier Denons with the same speaker package.

And by the way what the are these M&K Tripoles I keep on hearing about... Are they any good and at what price.

Once the sound setup is in place, any suggestions on the telly to complement the sound.
