Review of Underworld Live: Everything Everything

Introduction

I`ve not bothered with music dvds before as I have lots of old-fashioned cds which seem to work just fine but I`d heard excellent rumours regarding this disc so last Saturday I loaded it up whilst doing the housework :)

It was played all the way through 3 times before I had to go out. That meand this is the only dvd I`ve ever seen or heard that I watched multiple times in one sitting.

I guess it helps that I`m an underworld fan but this has to be oen of the best dvds to be released recently.

Video

Well it`s based around Underworld`s world tour so you don`t get crystal clear perfectly rendered mega images, that`s not what this is about. The images are grainy as you`d expect and it`s all very manic, just like most other music videos.

Some pixellation was evident on some of the scenes but nothing major, and It`s probably better quiality than it was for those 40000 dancing in a field :)

Audio

This is why dvd is better than cd, 5.1 digital audio sound (with a 2.0 stereo option for purists) means Underworld in every nook and cranny of your living room.

Pounding bass will test any subwoofer and they used the surround to good effect without it smearing out the normal live sound. In fact, combining this with some of the weird dsp modes on my 930 amp and I was actually in Glastonbury!

Lots.

Oh, I`ve just been informed that `lots` is not a sufficient answer.

Well in that case, the lots means that as well as the main tour track, there`s the `tomato video art` versio which replaces the live venue footage with weird things on your screen, if you`ve been to a rave or a decent underground club you`ll know what I mean. You can programme your own concert, watch outtakes and enjoy some extra bonus tracks.


If you have a dvd-rom drive you can even do clever things with your keyboard to mix your own visual effects and there are weblinks.

Conclusion

Great sound, loads of extra things to play with on the disc and good visuals.

It`s like a live cd only much much better because it has pictures as well!

If you like underworld or music like that in general you should buy this.
