Synopsis:
When the planet Krypton was destroyed in a cosmic holocaust that claimed its great civilization, Kal-El (known to Earth as Superman) was believed to be the only survivor, until now...

Safely hidden in the void of inner-space is the Kryptonian city of Argo, saved by the scientist Zaltar (Peter O`Toole) and powered by the magical Omegahedron. But now the city`s vital power source has been lost, and only one courageous person can retrieve it! Her name is Kara... on Earth she is known as Supergirl (Helen Slater).

Standing in her way is the evil sorceress Selena (Faye Dunaway) who has taken control of the fantastic power source. With her now super-powered black magic, the villainess is bent upon nothing less than world domination! Can Supergirl retrieve the Omegahedrom before it is too late?

First of all I want to say this a great movie, that sadly fate or rather Tri-Star Pictures ruined, all that's changed however with this amazing two disc set from Anchor Bay.

If you never have seen Supergirl then your in for a treat, if you have and hated it, then watch this and your love it... the reason? well for starters the first disc has the full length theatrical version that was never shown in the US, and the second disc contains a digital copy of the only directors cut master known to exist which has never been seen before anywhere running in at amazing 138min, this is how Supergirl should be seen!

The First disc is a visual treat and sonic one at that, as soon as the first stirrings of Jerry Goldsmiths awesome score come flying out the speakers (pun intended) you know your in for treat, the image is crisp as the day it hit the can maybe even fresher so much so you can sometimes see the odd blue screen bleed over if you look hard enough. if you have never seen this film before you would honesty think its new release and not a film from 1984, other extras include the original 1984 making of feature which adds nearly a hour of running time to the disc, several still image galleries including one dedicated to the lovely Helen Slater (Supergirl) all trailers and TV spots are present and accounted for, along with a commentary track from the Director and the Supergirl DVD Project consultant.

The Second Disc holds the Directors Cut, sadly unable to be restored to the extent of the first disc being that only one master print exists so you have the movie as it was shot and edited. a worthwhile viewing experience in itself and has allowed the film to become something of cult classic and hit in the last couple of years thanks to this amazing package.

The Film itself is a simple tale, before Krypton was destroyed a Scientist named Zaltar found a way to bring Argo City into another dimension called inner space and save its people from the same fate as the rest of Krypton, then one day the power source that gives life to the city is lost in the phantom zone, and finds its way to earth, and so ensues a tale of good vs. evil as Clark Kent`s cousin Kara (Supergirl) finds her way to earth in a effort to save her home, sadly she`s left to discover her new found superpowers by herself as Superman is off in outer space saving the galaxy, Helen Slater is quite frankly stunning as Supergirl and probably the greatest bit of Superhero casting since Chris Reeve donned the tights and cape. he was due to appear as Superman in a mentor role to Kara in this film but sadly had to drop out at the last minute before filming. which is a shame as it would have lent a little more crowd pulling weight to a otherwise top notch 80`s Superhero film, up there with the first two Superman movies and even leaving them eating dust with some outstanding special and visual effects some of the best in fact seen before CGI effects became common place.
