Review of American Pie Presents The Naked Mile

2 / 10

Introduction

Being a `Stifler`, Adam has much to live up to given the exploits of his cousins Steve and Erik, with both being renowned hellraisers who have no respect for women or authority. Unfortunately for Adam, he`s fairly conformist and is dating Tracy (Jessy Schram) who is `not ready` for sex. Adam`s virginity is weighing heavily on him, Tracy and his friends, who advocate that he dump her and find a girl who`s more responsive to his needs. When Adam is invited to his cousin Erik`s university where the `naked mile` will take place, Tracy gives him a weekend `guilt-free pass` to get the sex out of the way so they can concentrate on their relationship. When she tells her friends about this, they tell her what a bad idea it is, given the reputation of the `naked mile` and how sex will affect their relationship.

Video

An excellent transfer - as it should be having been released this year - with great colour definition and contrast.

The subtitles are clear and error free.

Audio

The DD 5.1 mix is perfectly fine, with a nice balance, but the film has none of the recognised music artists on the soundtrack that was such a feature of the first couple of `American Pie` movies.

Features

None on this review disc.

Conclusion

The first three `American Pie` films all had theatrical runs of varying success and then came 2005`s `American Pie Presents: Band Camp`, which, aside from a brief appearance by `Sherman`, was connected to the franchise only by the presence of a character whose surname was `Stifler` and Eugene Levy`s `Mr. Levenstein`. `Band Camp` was a fairly weak and formulaic film that never saw the inside of a cinema and just seemed to be a cash-in on the success and popularity of the franchise.

A year later and what a surprise: another `American Pie` film which is connected to the franchise only by the presence of a character whose surname is `Stifler` and Eugene Levy`s `Mr. Levenstein`!

I wasn`t expecting anything on the level of the original `American Pie` when I watched this and it was probably for the best. It has none of the humour, spark, originality, charm or heart of the first `American Pie` films and seems to be an excuse to get as much vulgarity and gratuitous nudity as possible into 90 minutes. Director Joe Nussbaum is in his early 30s but seemingly has the mentality of a horny 13 year old.

`American Pie Presents The Naked Mile` is an even weaker and formulaic film than its predecessor and has deservedly gone `straight to video`, or in this case DVD. It follows such a well trodden path that nothing was fresh or amusing and I felt like I`d seen it all before.

If you really liked `American Pie Presents: Band Camp`, you`re likely to derive some enjoyment from this, but otherwise avoid it like an FSB agent with some polonium 210.
