Review of Good Guys Wear Black

Introduction

Chuck Norris, the action God of the Eighties, is back and this time he`s wearing black.

Back from Vietnam, Chuck is wandering around minding his own business, but unfortuantly his old comrades are being shot one by one.

As John T Booker, Chuck starts out on the road of finding out who is taking out his buddies.

This film was made in 1979 and it shows. The picture is so soft I had to check my TV wasn`t covered in lard.

I have never seen so much noise on a DVD before either. Scene changes appear to be the worst where the black (or darkish) background is littered with snow.

The colours are pure 70`s/80`s also with no apparent effort by the producers of this disc to clean up the master at all, but I suppose in the end it adds to the charm and effect of a movie that is basicsally pure cheese!!

Audio

Ah, the audio track. Pro Logic and brash I think is the best description here.

The scene where the Porsche is being let loose round the race track is a particular grimace inducing sequence. the sound is loud and unrefined, as though the audio mixer has had a really bad day and is just slapping the controls on the mixing desk.

This is not all though as no film of this genre/age would be complete without a soundtrack and incidental music lifted straight from a 70`s porn flick (allegedly). It is so bad it is good and never failed to raise a smile.

Not even a trailer this time, just scene access. Sigh.

Conclusion

It`s Chuck, it`s cheesey and it has a plot that is so far out there that it`s almost impossible to pick up, but I love it. It wasn`t meant to be a comedy, but thats how it comes across nowadays.

The video`s poor and the audio`s not much better, but then again, they weren`t that hot originally.

One minor confusing point is that the box said Cert. 15 yet the disk said Cert. 18. Strange.
