Review of Desecration

Introduction

Desecration is a low-budget horror movie from first time writer/director Dante Tomaselli. When a teenager accidentally causes a nun’s death, the consequences come back to haunt him, along with the memories of the long-dead mother.

A film made in the style of The Exorcist and The Omen, Desecration can be chillingly scary in places (depending if you have a wild imagination or not) and is quite too Tomaselli makes a strong debut with this original horror movie, using some striking imagery.

Video

Although you can understand that not much effort might be put into this disc, this is poor. The picture is quite grainy, which might be acceptable if there weren’t compression artifacts as well. The video quality is very poor, even for a film as low profile as this.

Audio

Well, only a stereo mix, but then again you weren’t really expecting a full-blown 5.1 DTS mix, were you? The sound is adequate for it’s needs, although a LFE channel would always be welcome in a horror flick.

Features

There is the added bonus of having the short film of the same name, which Tomaselli made this feature film out of. Apart from that, nothing. As this movie wasn’t released in cinemas to my knowledge, there isn’t even a theatrical trailer. The menus are very poor as well – no effort put in there.

Conclusion

The movie is not bad, a good film for horror fans or those aspiring to make their first movie. This is one of the better directing debuts; Tomaselli has a good eye and flair for the camera. However, the film often doesn’t make sense and features some pretty bad acting. Worth renting out if you have nothing better to do on a Saturday night, but not to everyone’s taste.
