Review of Full Metal Mayhem
Introduction
Need that late Christmas present? Got a brother who`s slightly interested in anything mechanical? Job solved. Here comes the annual cheap and cheerful DVD with promises of thrills, spills and plenty of spectacular crashes.
Full Metal Mayhem is a 55 minute trawl through racing with caravans, Reliant Robins, vans, taxis and assorted bangers. Add in Siamese racing (one car on top of the other; top steers whilst bottom sorts out the pedals) and ramp somersaulting, and you`re laughing.
Video
Erm, what`s to say? There`s a picture and it`s 4:3.
Audio
Music that is mostly loud guitars in an attempt to make the visuals look a bit more interesting; it fails. Depressing attempt at wacky commentary by a man whose shirts show more personality.
Features
Nowt, thankfully.
Conclusion
Cheap and cheerful, with one eye on potential transmission on Five; made to sound exciting but actually on a par with watching paint dry. There must be a market for this sort of thing, but it ain`t me. 55 minutes seemed almost twice as long in reality, and the excitement promised by taking a driver view of the caravan race was boring in the extreme. Most of these events were probably more fun if you were a driver or a maybe a spectator, but watching bits of them on DVD is just no fun at all.
