"Titanic was called the ship of dreams", tells us Rose in the beginning of the movie.
Well, this disc-set is the disc-set of dreams for the ship of dreams.
"Titanic" was the very first review I`ve written for this site almost 7 years ago (back in the year 2000, when reader reviews still counted...). Back then - the single disc edition of the movie was bare of any extras. It took Cameron 5 more years to release this disc-set. But hey - it was sure worth the wait, and the 2-billion dollar movie has finally got a great release on DVD.
The video transfer is superb. The movie is split into two discs, so the compression level of the video is minimal. There are absolutely no compression signs and the picture is crystal clear. The colors are beautifully saturated and the special effects still look awesome, even after 10 years.
The DTS and DD 5.1 soundtrack are awesome. The surrounds are used throughout the movie and help create the relaxed and romantic atmosphere at the beginning and the catastrophe at the end. The sub gets a hell of a workout during the sinking scenes.
The musical score is simple yet incredible and the theme song is, well, lovely.
The menus are beautifully animated with sound.
The extras include 3 commentaries, over three and a half hours of behind the scenes featurettes (including interviews, explanations about the special effects and documentaries), 30 deleted scenes (including a rather bad alternate ending), a music video, 3 parodies, hundreds of pictures and photos in various picture galleries and conceptual art galleries, 9 storyboards and a script. The amount and quality of the extras is literally overwhelming.
Bottom line - finally, this terrific movie got a superb disc-set that does it justice. Don`t miss this one. It`s to die for.

"Titanic" revisited - April 2009

Almost two years after watching this magnificant DVD-set, I sat through another viewing, and there's no surprise here - the movie still rocks! :)
So yeah, I still await the BluRay version of the movie and yeah, I think the deleted scenes should've been accessible by seamless branching, but that's nothing major.
In case you live on another planet and haven't seen this one - get this disc set. You won't regret it. :)
