A rather ordinary (and occasional dull) movie from the creators of Shrek. Come on - there`s only THAT many animated movies that can be done about fish, OK?
The movie tells the story of a liar fish and of a sissy shark. As simple as that. Or is it? Well, I found the movie too filled with gay issues (the father shark yelling at it son for dressing up as a dolphin, for example). Naturally, one has to be an adult to notice these so-called subtleties, but still - I don`t think these issues ought to be addressed in what should be a kids` movie.
The video transfer is very good. The animation is flawless and the colors are well saturated.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack and the matching Croatian, Greek and Hebrew soundtracks are all great. The surrounds are used occasionally and provide a decent sound envelope.
However, the movie`s music is truly pitiful. R&B and animation are NOT to be mixed together ever again.
The menus are animated with sound.
The extras include a commentary by the directors, an additional short movie, some pathetic dancing lessons, some intentional bloopers, a behind the scenes featurette, an interactive picture gallery, some interactive games and some DVD-ROM features. For a single disc edition, the extras are quite nice.
Bottom line - an average (yet occasionally spectacular) movie with several problematic themes, but other than that a recommended rental.
