Review of Muse, The

Introduction

The Muse is a clever take on Hollywood with an excellent cast and oodles of cameos throughout. I was expecting a `chick flick` but what I got was a witty (but not overtly humerous) and intelligent film that brought a smile to my face.

Basically the film revolves around a director that`s lost his touch (Albert Brooks). He obtains a muse, Sarah, who just happens to be the daughter of one Zeus, chief of the Olympian gods! (Sharon Stone). His wife (Andie MacDowell) doesn`t appreciate this at first, until she meets up with Laura. They hit it off and soon Sarah is helping Laura instead......

Video

Anamorphic widescreen is pretty much expected for new films and this is no exception. The colours are vivid and not washed out. It looks like they`ve got the hang of this dvd lark at last......

The menus are ok, nothing exciting but they work :)

Audio

Excellent soundtrack by Elton John and good incidental music work nicely together and the dialogue is always crisp and clear - what you`d expect from a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.

Features

Not many, a short and fairly pointless featurette is the highlight.

Conclusion

I found this to be fairly amusing but probably it won`t have you laughing out loud, the acting is good, especially Stone who works wonderfully, although Brooks himself looks a tad lost on occasion as if he has forgotten which end of the camera he is on.....

Entertaining and refreshingly free from violence and swearing :)
