Review of WWE: New Year`s Revolution

Introduction

If you`ve read my reviews of other wrestling discs, then skip this one as I haven`t changed my mind, and I`ll be saying basically the same things. And I make no apologies for it.

WWE or World Wrestling Entertainment has been with us for far too many years now, in many guises. But the basic premise is simple. It passes itself off as wrestling and sport, when it is in fact a glorified soap opera. It`s basically about marketing, merchandising, making money. And I don`t like it one bit.

New Year`s Revolution is the annual New Year`s event and for those of you interested, here are the fights contained on this DVD:-

Triple H vs. Batista vs. Edge vs. Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit
Lita vs. Trish Stratus
Kane vs. Gene Snitsky
Shelton Benjamin vs. Maven
William Regal & Eugene vs. Christian & Tyson Tomko
Jerry "The King" Lawler vs. Muhammad Hassan

Video

A full frame transfer converted from an NTSC source (as originally broadcast in the US). It all looks ok, and just like your average US TV DVD. There`s not really much more to say about it. Does the job, doesn`t do anything above and beyond the call of duty.

Audio

A DD2.0 stereo soundtrack which brings you some commentators who really believe in this stuff, and still manage to go way over the top and also some rock music to give that supposed "little edge" to the action.

Features

A few trailers and some short, vacuous interviews with some participants.

Conclusion

Repulsive. Repugnant. Repellant. Reprehensible. Revolting.

Those are just a few of the words that leap to mind. A glorified soap opera masquerading as a sport. People smashing each other to pieces with fists, feet and anything else that`s just handily lying around near a wrestling ring. A supposedly previously pregnant woman being mocked for having a miscarriage. Disgusting.

This is not a sport. No sportsman would want to degrade themselves in this way. This isn`t entertainment either, it`s just vile. Why would you want to pay to watch this stuff? Why would you want to buy a DVD and watch it again and again?

Please avoid this at all costs. It`s morally and culturally vacuous, and it serves no purpose other than to make a few Americans a bit richer. Maybe, if enough people turn off from it, it will go away.

Your Opinions and Comments

Hahaha, this takes me back to those dim dark days, wonder if one of mine will surface shortly...
